Stephen Ruppa Email and Phone Number
Sr. Principal Engineer at Comcast where my focus is optical architecture, roadmaps for the optical networks and defining requirements for the associated transport software. Currently working on: *How the network evolves to support 400GbE including disaggregated line systems, analysis to determine where ZR+ coherent pluggable optics can be used and operationalizing them. *Analyzing and creating modeling for latency across optical networks * The relationship of all the layers from physical fiber to L3 routing and what this means for tooling to associate and correlate them. From OTDR to LLDPRecently completed creating the "Unified Optical Architecture" to support commercial Wavelength Services and High Speed Ethernet (20GbE -100GbE). I published a paper at 2022 SCTE Cable Tec expo describing this work.In the past I was a leader in creating unified design and naming standards for all transport networks at Comcast. Previous to my current role I held many technical positions. Starting as an entry level cable installer and working up through construction lineman, fiber technician and transport engineer. My knowledge of the end-to-end network from customer home to core network gives a unique perspective on creating new architectures. In all I have over 27 years of experience, all of it being at Comcast. In my time away from work I own a boat on Lake Michigan and am very active in salmon and trout tournaments with my wife. Together with our two Australian Cattle Dogs we also enjoy working on many gardens at our home in South East Wisconsin. Some of which are native prairies, pollinator gardens and certified Monarch Waystations providing habitat for the recently declared endangered species.
