Assistant Commissioner
South Western Region which is a large and diverse region, headquartered in Toowoomba. The region spans the entire south west corner of Queensland from Toowoomba in the east, to a line just north of Augathella and across and down to the South Australian and New South Wales borders. Steve’s team, of approximately 600 staff, is responsible for providing the South Western Region community with fire, rescue, hazmat and emergency management services delivered through headquarters functions and 40 fire stations.Steve has an in depth knowledge and understanding of all aspects and disciplines of technical rescue and specialised operations, underpinned by many years of developing and delivering training, managing capability development and responding to diverse and challenging operational incidents.Steve is a Team Leader, and the International Program Manager for Australia Urban Search and Rescue Taskforce 1 (Queensland) with extensive operational and management experience in both the domestic and international context.He is an active member of the United Nations International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) community, working to improve preparedness, response and coordination of large scale, rapid onset disasters requiring structural collapse rescue capabilities. Steve has served many years on INSARAG Working Group's (Operations, Guidelines Review and Training Working Group's), and a registered International Classifier and Team Leader for INSARAG External Classifications. Steve has also been involved in Urban Search and Rescue Team Mentoring - aiding teams in their preparation, planning and progress towards INSARAG Classification.

These centres include all operational functions of command, operations, intelligence, planning, aviation, public information and logistics and the management of critical relationships with all levels of government and state agencies.
