Context: e2v is a highly successful and rapidly evolving organisation developing and manufacturing world leading RF and Imaging technology products supplying a broad customer base operating in the space, defence, marine, medical and quantum sectors. Responsibilities: • Manage all aspects of design and manufacture of imaging products through development, Wafer FAB and Wafer Post Processing. (47 direct and indirect reports). • Delivery of technical aspects of complex customer projects throughout the product lifecycle including bid, design, manufacture, test and delivery (approx. 50 projects)• Provide direction to a team of 20 Technical Authorities working throughout the project base providing technical expertise, chairing major reviews and covering first line problem escalation• Own major tracts of the Business Transformation Programme covering increased productivity, monitoring and yield throughout the product lifecycle including design, manufacture, assembly and test.Achievements: • Successful delivery against forecast of all manufacturing targets through design, wafer FAB and wafer post processing last three financial years and delivered upgrade of plant form 6” to 8” capability.• Provide transformational leadership for the WSO WUVS space satellite optical detector and electronics sub system through PDR and CDR• Lead the demonstration and application of novel technology which has resulted in a major new product launch (Safe Stop)• Provide Technical governance for the J-PAS ground based space telescope 1.2 Giga pixel focal pane array camera through to successful customer delivery • Establish and successfully lead the development of a high-power microwave generator for large scale industrial processing applications through concept and design phase

Context: Malvern Labs is a start-up company based on an Associate business model with a vision of creating/maintaining high tech jobs in the Malvern/Worcestershire area. Achievements: • Have rapidly signed over 50 Associates• Won contracts supplying specialists into Local Government and European Space Agency• Working with local businesses to pull together significant offerings into such agencies as DSTL, the Wellcome Trust, Technology Strategy Board, MoD and European Funding bodies such as ESA and EDA.

Context: Command and Inform is a highly profitable rapidly growing consultancy business operating across national and international defence markets offering systems engineering, specialist technical support and large-scale programme/project management support.Responsibilities: Contribute to the delivery of a safe and profitable business through the appropriate implementation of Technical Assurance through the entire lifecycle of a project. This is achieved through a leadership style that allows open dialogue between management and the delivery teams understanding and mitigating technical risks through the bid cycle and identifying problems early through programme delivery. From an external perspective manage domestic and international customer relationships owning and developing high value propositions. Achievements: Operating as part of a small management team I have contributed to the growth in sales form £12M to £16M through the provision of Technical Direction across the ISTAR, Air and Missile Defence and Communications teams. Specifically I have • Implemented Technical Assurance processes such that no programme has failed to deliver minimum profit target.• Contributed to the CIP sales plan providing Technical due diligence.• Led the tactical to strategic transformation of QinetiQ’s relationship with the Finnish Defence Force. • Expanded sales into Finland from £200k to £1.8M with a further £800k single tender bids in progress. • Been invited to form a QinetiQ team to support the FDF upcoming Strategic Defence Review.

Context: QinetiQ Inc is a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK based QinetiQ Group acting as the project office in the US building and managing a sales pipeline and providing an in-country presence to exploit and manage the customer interface while developing a detailed understanding of the US defence marketplace. Responsibilities: Reporting to President QinetiQ Inc bring credible programme, technical and systems engineering expertise throughout our customer interactions supporting development of high value propositions and bids working directly with highly knowledgeable customers and their technical advisors. Achievements: Directly involved with $20M worth of sales, ~$100M of pipeline growth, actively contributing to rapid overall sales growth from $75M FY07 to $120M FY09. Building on my combined understanding of technology solutions, system engineering/integration and business strategy I developed• $50M value proposition through JPL to supply NASA with QinetiQ Ion Thruster technology • $20M value proposition through General Dynamics (GDATP) as a technology solution partner in the C-IED, high value asset protection and security domains.• $15M value propositions through QinetiQ North America exploiting UK EW, Radar, Electro Optical, mm Wave and Situational Awareness capabilities.

Responsibilities: With high exposure to City and Investors through IPO, deliver a complex system of systems capable detecting debris on runways conforming to performance, operational and regulatory requirements applicable to commercial and military international airports.Achievements: While owning and delivering the associated P&L I • Led a team of 50 staff through the successful integration and delivery of Hardware (£3M) and Software (£4M) investment programmes in a formal System Engineering Environment. • Successfully transformed a research culture into a formal System Engineering Environment through the introduction of Lifecycle/System Engineering Processes, Supply Chain Management, Quality Assurance and Configuration Management Systems. • Negotiated the formal supply agreement and subsequent transfer of production to Millitech Inc • Negotiated first Tarsier sale to Vancouver International Airport

Responsibilities: Bringing transformational management to the disparate and underperforming electromagnetic business areas spread geographically and organisationally across the UK. Achievements: • Owned formal P&L responsibility and consistently delivered income (£5M rising to £11M) and profit (£1.1M peak) while managing headcount reductions (110 to 90 FTE’s) and site rationalisation (5 to 2). • £3.5M win and subsequent delivery of the first fully operational High Power RF system. • Negotiated the release of the Tempest MoD strategic holdings and reprovisioned a state-of-the-art Dual use Tempest/EMC test facility at QinetiQ Farnborough. • Early stage customer requirements capture based on defence application of then BAES (now Selex) Phased Array technology.

One of two industrial representatives on the board of directors of a company set up to manage a large (£9.0M) DTi grant covering a number of research projects from microwave communication systems through to software animation tools. Significantly this centre of excellence has a wide and varied set of industrial collaborators including QinetiQ, Toshiba, BBC, Bristol University.

Achievements: Utilising personal international profile and knowledge of existing UK, NATO and US DoD programmes established technology exchange programmes with key Russian government funded laboratories. Managing a migration of Russian scientists and technology to UK universities that is still being exploited by UK MoD and industry. This included High Power Microwave, RF, pulsed power and Ultra-wideband technologies. Owned and delivered a £3.5M Cost Centre.

Achievements: Technical lead in MoD High Power Microwave research programmes (annual budget £2.5M) working closely with UK Primes, SME’s and Universities. Was UK principal scientist in the successful £20M procurement of the world’s first high power (Tera Watt) microwave test facility working with the US Prime Physics International driving success through personally solving many of the technical problems encountered.

Achievements: From an initial funding base of £100k I was personally responsible for the technical direction of a research lab with an international reputation capable of designing, building and testing systems among the most powerful microwave sources in the world. I achieved a significant number of world firsts including, development of a tuneable Gyrotron, Gyrotron based on an FEA cathode and 2nd harmonic Cyclotron Autoresonance Maser (CARM) while publishing 18 journal papers, 52 conference papers.
