On July 1, 2019, I became president of Babson College. My connection to Babson spans more than three decades. I am a proud MBA alum and I spent 14 years of my career as a Babson faculty member, director of The Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship, and vice provost for entrepreneurship and global management. As a lifelong entrepreneur, I am energized by Babson’s mission to educate entrepreneurial leaders who create economic and social value everywhere, and I am thrilled to be back as Babson’s 14th president. Before returning to Babson, I spent 11 years in Philadelphia, first serving as president of Philadelphia University. After leading the merger of PhilaU and Thomas Jefferson University, I was appointed Chancellor of the new Jefferson, a comprehensive university that created a standard for transdisciplinary education that anticipates the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s students. My early and continuing specialty in franchising began as a member of the founding team of Jiffy Lube. Later I wrote my doctoral dissertation on complex economic relationships using franchising as the base case. Then, I published frequently about franchising, including academic journals and a trade books. I have consulted with regional, national and global companies on franchising issues.
