Steve has been involved in Scouting from a boy aged 8 for most of his life. A retired Nottinghamshire Police Oficer, Steve (with another colleague) founded the C.A.S.E. (Children And Safety Education) life-skills programme for Key Stage 1 + 2 designed to complement the UK D.A.R.E. Programme for Key Stage 5 + 6. Steve has been involved with supporting youth in Nottinghamshire for many years, especially through Scouting (where he became Deputy County Commissioner for Nottinghamshire) and Schools work. In 2010 Steve received the Scout Association's Silver Wolf for oustanding services to Scouting. In 2019 he received The Scout Association's second highest award for Adult volunteers - The Bar to the Silver Acorn for further outstanding and exceptional services to Scouting. Steve also went on (with other Leaders) to start the North Nottinghamshire Duke of Edinburgh Award Open Group in 2009 covering the Ashfield, Mansfield, Ollerton, Worksop and Retford areas of North Nottinghamshire, an area which suffered considerable depravation folowing the closure of the mining and textile industries many years ago (and is still showing little sign of recovery). He is still actively involved with this group.Steve has also been a member of the management team that led two Scout expeditions to and in Brazil in 2004 & 2006.In 2017 he was recognised as a qualified Local Preacher in the Sherwood Forest Circuit of the Methodist Church of Great Britain.
