Educational and Leadership PhilosophiesThe purpose of public school education is to provide a safe and orderly, student centered/ teacher moderated environment that will facilitate the development of knowledge/skills that are in alignment with student interest and district goals. Furthermore, education as a practice is a deductive process that starts at a theoretical basis progressing to a conceptual framework and eventually practical application. The formal curriculum of a school should be a structured document contains the subject content and activities that is to govern the flexibility of the informal curriculum. School curricula should address the state standards for that subject and should consider the values and culture of the community in which it is implemented. A good school fosters all of the preceding while establishing an ongoing trend of successfully raising student achievement in all academic subgroups (ESOL, Special Needs, Honors and etc). A good school also builds relationships with the stakeholders of the community to help put students first. As a transformational leader I believe that successful and effective leadership must be able to motivate individuals to become stakeholders in the vision of the establishment. An effective leader must have the interpersonal relation skills that will help him/her to partner with their staff to catalyze academic improvement. The ability to be a reflective thinker is imperative. A leader needs to be able to step away from a situation, diagnose and prescribe simple solutions for complex problems. School administrators/instructional leaders should also be able to develop the competence and commitment of their staff so that quantum leaps in student achievement can be reached. Finally, an effective school leader is visible and greatly involved in the decisions made in the school, assuring that the integrity of the school is not compromised whilst at the same time placing the best interest of the child first.
