My role is to control the day to day operation of motor transport making most effective use of resources. I operate an efficient motor transport office and ensure all routine administration/documentation are completed. I certify that the transport department is operating in accordance with and has access to all relevant, civil and military, legislative and regulatory publications. Maintain motor transport standing Orders and unit standard operating procedures. I plan, organise and conduct all related training of all Department staff warranting their continuous development. I am a Dangerous Goods Consignor advising the chain of command on the movement of all Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) and carry out the duties of a HAZMAT Operator. I am responsible for producing and providing; cost data to users of vehicles ; information for the raising of ‘Bills’ to the users of vehicles; and information regarding the costs of hired vehicles. I have to initiate short-term vehicle hire and must operate within delegated financial limits. I prepare a detailed maintenance forecast and ensure it is carried out. I am fully coherent on the operating system for the reporting of vehicle faults/breakdowns, monitor procedures and up-date were necessary. I make sure all vehicles, generators and equipment under the departments control are fully operational. I operate a fair system of work for all department staff. I monitor staff attendance and performance and prepare staff reports in order to support promotion. I always lead by example and ensure my staff know, understand and comply with the unit’s Equal Opportunities policy, Health and Safety policy and Environmental policy. I supervise the department staff in their daily duties, monitoring their qualifications, experience and competence to operate IT systems. I comply with, and assist in the development of the Transport Managers directives and maintain transport-operating data. I deputise for the Transport Manager during periods of absence.
