The highest quality of written English is paramount to this role. For live subtitles, a sharp, fast editorial mind is required in order to phrase and deliver news subtitles live on air. This required a great deal of verbal communication with health professionals up and down the country, and the ability to adapt my tone to the flow of the conversation in order to achieve the best possible result for our client. I would then call or telephone our client with the results of these negotiations for instruction on how to proceed. Again, this required a level of tact and skill in communicating, shifting from speaking to health professionals to often worried patients.
