As a Transportation Data Scientist, my journey over the past six years has been focused on improving safety and operations for transportation systems through data science and AI. My career started in transportation engineering with a master’s in civil engineering from Virginia Tech, but over the past few years, my experience has been more focused in machine learning and artificial intelligence, augmented by certifications in data science and AI strategy from leading institutions like IBM and the University of Pennsylvania.At the heart of my work is advanced analytics and machine learning, with a particular focus on traffic management, tolling operations, and transportation safety. My expertise extends to developing custom visualizations and interactive dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, and Python, enabling stakeholders to grasp understand and interpret complex performance metrics easily.I have developed AI-driven projects, such as using machine learning to classify roadway surface types with a 95% accuracy rate, identifying underlying crash factors with regression models, and employing LLMs to summarize crash reports. My technical toolkit includes Python, SQL, web development, MATLAB, and cloud platforms like Azure and GCP.I have served as a Deputy Project Manager for multi-year projects and led data teams at toXcel further solidifying my capacity to manage large-scale, data-intensive projects. Through predictive analytics, I have developed forecasting models that significantly impacted operational strategies, evidenced by an 18-month traffic prediction model with a 97% accuracy rate, directly influencing revenue generation and resource allocation. Additionally, I have developed a suite of data products designed to automate the collection and analysis of various safety assets for rural agencies. This suite uses machine learning and statistical analysis to automatically locate roadway curves, calculate advisory speeds, and detect and identify signs based on telemetry and video data.As an active member of the ITE and a contributor to the industry's discourse on innovation, I'm always looking to connect with peers and professionals who are passionate about employing AI for transportation solutions.
