(Otto, Diesel, Atkinson, Bourke) A unique mechanism which allows the piston velocity profile to be engineered using rollers/cams to give an almost frictionless engine which has no sliding parts. Only the piston rings need contact the cyclinder. Since rollers track external cam surfaces the piston connecting rods are correctly supported - only tensile forces act - a first for cam engine designs.This engine is fully balanced and can accommodate 2-stroke, 4-stroke, 5/6 - stroke engine cycles.Desmodromic valve control mechanism for IC engines. Variable valve timing, valve actuation and valve duration – no requirement for separate camshafts, gears, timing chains/belts etc.Variable compression ratio mechanism for cam IC engine. Compression ratio can be varied within a piston stroke of an engine cycle to allow multifuel operation with a correct compression ratio for the fuel properties.External Combustion Engine. A long power stroke and short exhaust stroke combine to make an efficient waste heat engine. This engine uses a super-critical fluid injected to flash evaporate providing the power stroke of the engine without using any high pressure valves. A steam engine with better efficiency than standard ICE's offer without using any high pressure chokes/valves.Design of an analogue computer system to control LPG injection in diesel engines. Using digital brushless D.C. or AC motors it is possible to measure the energy input during the machining process very accurately and thus determine how much energy is required to machine a specified amount of material from a component. In this way it is therefore possible to optimize or eliminate the traditional ‘dwell’ time used in conventional grinding and to achieve improved precision. The system would also determine grinding wheel performance and optimize ‘wheel dressing’ cycles.

The new algorithms allowed the controller to adapt for variable feed rates and material/cutting tool performance. Using these new techniques it was possible to eliminate the ‘following error’ as typically found on commercial CNC systems. The system was tested on milling machines, drilling machines, lathes and later on grinding machines.
