I work as a part of a large team; we are responsible for the 24hr operation and maintenance of Watchgate Water Treatment Works and few various outstations, to company and statutory standards. The main aim is to produce wholesome drinking water for the whole North West of England. Responsibilities include:• Continual running of site, including timed sampling of different point on site and to different parameters• Optimizing the plant, reducing chemical running costs while maintaining compliance• Dealing with governing bodies with regards to information they are after• Problem solving to ensure effective operation/delivery on site of production of water• Water quality analysis’ from computer data logging to aid process optimization• Having extensive knowledge of the use of SCADA system• First call maintenance or plant and other equipment• Organizing the ordering of chemicals and assisting in deliveries• Supervision of contractors and ensure correct documentation is used• Involvement in capital projects• Calibration and maintenance of online instrumentation, control equipment and automated dosing systems• Keep all QA records up to date, again calibration etc but also personal documentation• Working to strict guidelines set out by UU that includes the use of liquid chlorine gas• Recording daily readings with regards to abstraction, within which I have managed to reduce number of readings required.

Responsible for the undertaking of multiple project throughout UU both in Water and Waste Water in any aspect of engineering namely Mechanical/Civil/ElectricalI work closely with other UU departments, Headwork’s, Process, Alliance Contractors, Customers and other national bodies. Capital Maintenance was responsible to install and deliver on time and on budget contracts internally in UU. Some of the responsibilities I undertook were:• Submitting my monthly budgets & project delivery timescales• Reading through accepting and not accepting Method Statements and Risk Assessments• Working closely with contractors on site completing pre commencement paperwork• Holding project review/update meetings• Researching new ideas to approach different projects• Produce new innovation techniques to reduce costs & timescales

I was part of the maintenance team, I focused more on the design and modification of exhaust systems and designing tooling to achieve required result. Other duties included • Sending designs out for tender before then placing orders• Visiting contractors who made tools• Maintenance of CNC machine more so the infra red safety zones, thus eliminating injury• Stock checking of parts store

The company designed and supplied dust extract systems typically for quarrying industry, for national and international companies id would say that no two contracts were the same pretty much every one, was a one off. My duties included• Full design of a project (initially on drawing boards then onto CAD)• Sending out drawings for tender• Site visits for visualisation of project• Approving manufacturers• Assisting in commissioning• Ordering full bolt lists!
