Even though I aced all my science and math classes in high school, I thought I was meant to become a pastor because I had learned that I loved helping people see that they matter and that their choices matter too. But once I started my pastoral degree at Northwest University, a beloved English professor of mine called out a gift he saw in me. He pulled me aside and told me that I had what it took for serious academic study, and I would likely enjoy a degree that cultivates a foundation of close analysis and broad philosophy like English Lit. By the end of the semester, I believed him and became an English major.The degree was hard-won, but in the end, I got married in '21 and finally graduated in '22. And since I enjoyed working with the admissions team so much, I decided to stay on at Northwest University as the enrollment counselor for NU's business graduate programs.In this role, I get to help the best kind of people discover the right next step toward the life they want to have. NU is a community of learners that has continually shown me who I am, always championing me to overcome my challenges and fall in love with the world and others a little more. I love connecting with our MBA alumni, who so often share stories of how their professors changed their life by investing in them. Man, I love my school!I've also had an absolute blast re-launching the Young Professionals Chapter of KIROS, a Christian networking organization in Seattle. Our goal is to see every young professional Christian engaged in a supportive community that cultivates the connection between their faith and work. We average about 25-40, but we're hoping for 100 by the end of '24 and a few thousand down the road!And as a huge gift from NU, I was able to start the MBA program myself in August 2023. I'm a year in, and I'm often asked what I plan to "do" with it. I've found that I'm learning so much with it in my current roles at KIROS YP and NU that it's already justified the effort. I can't say I know where I'm going next, but I love NU, I love professionals, and I love Christ. Pretty sure the rest will work itself out!
