My career with Deloitte New Zealand started off in the corporate tax space, where I advised inbound multinationals on the various tax issues associated with doing business in New Zealand, as well as overseeing the delivery of corporate compliance and tax accounting matters for many clients.In 2018 I took up an opportunity to move into the employment taxes space and expand my New Zealand and international tax knowledge further. My corporate tax background makes me ideally placed to assist clients with all taxation aspects associated with moving internationally including the personal, employer and corporate tax impacts for both employee and employer. I also help clients understand and minimise the impacts that recent changes in the employment taxes space have, as well as advising on the ‘future of work’ given the changes brought on and accelerated by the COVID pandemic. I also work with a number of high-net worth individuals, advising and managing all aspects of their often complex taxation issues.

I started with Deloitte in the London office in 2008, working in the financial services tax team. My clients were hedge funds and private equity clients, who required assistance with understanding and complying with the UK Investment Manager Exemption rules as they were then. I complete my Chartered Accounting qualification with the UK firm (with first time passes) and was presented with an opportunity to work with Deloitte New Zealand for a couple of years.

Completed initial officer training and pilot training, being awarded my RAF wings after 2 years of rigorous flying training before flying the Tornado-F3 Air Defense Fighter. My time in the service, and as a pilot, allowed me to develop skills and competencies in effective communication as well as awareness and analysis of dynamic situations to develop creative and efficient solutions to achieve success in high-pressure and time-critical environments. It also motivated me to excel in a challenging role, and develop self-awareness and self-analysis skills to allow a continuous improvement in performance as well as team building and follower-ship qualities making me a reliable member and leader of any team. There were many times where I needed to remain flexible and calm in an ever changing environment, reprioritising as needed to achieve successful outcomes.
