Provided technical leadership and expertise in the development of electronic devices based on nanocrystals and quantum dots including EL display devices (QD-OLED hybrid), thin-film PV (CIGS nanocrystal devices), photodetectors, and transistors ( development, design, fabrication, testing and characterisation of devices), for commercialisation.Directed and managed a multi-disciplinary team of 10 scientists and technicians in the R&D of nano-crystal inks and devices. With year on year improvements, demonstrated world leading performance with solution processed CIGS based solar cells and heavy metal free QD-OLED devices.Responsible for scoping and the project management of JDA’s with international collaborators/customers Success in these projects resulted in me securing follow on JDA’s contracts with total funding in excess of £3M USD. Also successfully secured and executed a government funded project (worth £1M). Introduced and implemented work practices and problem solving techniques such as statistical data analysis, Design of Experiments, Six Sigma project management, and Lean, to the group and company.Valuable patents and knowhow generated in several areas such as materials, devices and processes.

Reasearch and development of planar polymer organic transistors and OFETs Responsible for the development and design of novel planar organic/inorganic nano-transistors, integrated circuits, fabricated from organic semiconductor inks.Technical lead and project manager of a international multidisciplinary collaboration with companies in Austria and Czechoslovakia for the development of nano-imprint lithography of thermoplastics and electronic polymer materials down to 50 nm scale for device manufacturing.Practical experience with techniques such a substrate surface conditioning, surface characterisation (contact angle, adhesion testing), wet and dry lithography (hot press embossing, photolithography, AFM-lithography), AFM imaging, SEM, mask design, thin film deposition (vacuum and solution), material removal (acid etching)

Developer of devices and processes for a polymer light emitting diode microdisplay (PLED on CMOS)Joining at the beginning of the company formation, played a significant role in the development of devices and processes for the fabrication and manufacture of OLED on CMOS microdisplays. Gained experience of working in Class 10 cleanroom, and large range of CMOS and display fabrication processes on 8” wafers. Project managed the internation collaboration (Asia and mainland Europe) for the development, procurement and set-up of a key production process. Responsible for £1M capex purchase. With aggressive targets, this was delivered on-time and within budget. Within 6mths was demonstrating a yield >99% and conforming to ISO9001 quality standards. Led process improvement projects resolving a long standing problem to improve the manufacturing yield from <50% to >90% of a key process.Designed and built an 80-channel temperature control accelerated device lifetime testing system for OLED devices, with automatics data aquisition control (programmed using Labview)
