Contracted as a Technology Manager since 2009 in the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond project stream. This role had responsibilities that included:• Production of Project Technical documentation• Check/comment on technical documentation provided by development contractors• Technical assessment of competitive tender processes for future development work• Manage technical interfaces with key stakeholders Co-responsibility for the management of technical underpinning tasks to support technical options to treat legacy pond fuel and isotope cartridge materials. Tasks included U corrosion expansion modelling studies, U corrosion lateral expansion experimental trials, in line grout mixing trials, polymer encapsulation studies, product/package finishing options, in-container vitrification, cold vacuum drying treatment options, C14 and tritium isotope extraction techniques and chemical conversion studies. This has involved the specification and management of technical work, liaising with 4 sub-contractor companies and overseeing tasks involving approx 20 contract staff. I had specific responsibility for engaging with RWM that included:• Preparation of cLoC submissions for proposed treatment options for legacy fuel/fuel bearing wastes and isotope cartridges• Responsible for managing all technical aspects relating to submission of future disposability assessments to RWM Ltd for Self-shielded boxes• Review of subsequent RWM assessment reports and instigating issue resolution strategies to address appropriate action points arising in assessment reportsFrom 2006 – 2009, I was contracted to the FGMSP project with responsibility for improving the knowledge of the sludge material in the pond. This involved devising improved characterisation strategies, radionuclide/chemical inventory assessments, site sampling and analysis capabilities etc. Considered a subject area expert in this area and a Centre of Excellence leader for Magnox sludge characterisation.

Responsibilities included development of a routine gas sampling procedure for simultaneous quantitative detection of gases resulting from reactor coolant corrosion. Automation of this monitoring provided a cost and efficiency saving to Nuclear Electric who contracted NNC to provide this service in support of the UK AGR reactor fleet.Technical support to Dounreay DFR and PFR decommissioning projects. Specifically, development of the Water-Vapour-Nitrogen process to treat Na and NaK contaminated materials and the complex chemistry associated with the growth of hydroxide and superoxide crusts of Na and K in low oxygen and water vapour environments in contact with bulk and residual liquid metal alloy NaK. Provided chemical decontamination and decommissioning support to the Medium Active and Highly Active cells at UKAEA Harwell and Culham JET facility.Health Physics and Waste ManagementQualified Radiation Protection Supervisor, authorised BNFL Low Level Waste (LLW) Co-ordinator and Waste Skip Controller responsible for providing health physics and waste consignment support to the BNFL Sea Lines Recovery project involving up to 100 personnel including divers, ships crew/management and BNFL project staff from 2004 - 2006.

Provision of chemical consultation services for routine and non-routine plant support decontamination operations and demonstration of in situ decontamination processes in support of Sellafield decommissioning projects. Specifically, effluent disposal options, chemical and engineering constraints for safe operation, HAZOP studies, COSHH assessments and method statements.Extensive experience of practical laboratory work and publishing reports on various development projects related to effluent treatment and the understanding of chemistry reaction mechanisms in a nuclear environment. These projects include: the removal of Cs and Sr from radioactive liquid effluents and the removal of aqueous Pu, U and Tc species from waste streams by using complexants and precipitants.Responsible for deploying chemical decontamination operations in many types of radioactive environments.
