I’m a Behavioural Economist, and Deputy-Director of the Centre for Behavioural Economics, Society and Technology (BEST Centre), at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane.I completed my PhD in 2018 at Queensland University of Technology, studying the role and impact of technology in modern mate choice behaviour and decision making. In such novel areas as online dating and sperm donation in both formal and informal settings. Post PhD my research has focussed on decision making in health and surgical settings, particularly relating to the impact and role of cognitive and behavioural bias in communication and choice.My research takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of human behaviour and decision making, bridging the fields as behavioural economics and applied psychology. I’ve written and published more than 50 different research studies in such prominent journals as Nature Human Behaviour, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Psychological Science, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open, Annals of Surgery Open, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Economics and Human Biology, Plos One, Human Reproduction, Social Psychological and Personality Science, and the British Journal of SurgeryMy research has had significant and measurable real-world impact for Australian society and globally, and has received considerable global media attention. I’ve discussed my research on Australian and international television multiple times, appearing on national & international television, radio & podcasts more than 50 times, and been covered more than 500 times by different print & online media including The Australian, The Age, The Boston Globe, CBS News, The Daily Mail, Australian Financial Review, The New York Post, Sydney Morning Herald, and Vanity Fair.As Deputy-Director of the Centre for Behavioural Economics, Society and Technology, I’ve brought together and lead multi-disciplinary teams of behavioural researchers, successfully completing more than a dozen research projects with government and industry, totalling more than $2 million dollars since 2018.
