I have 45 years’ experience in medicinal chemistry, synthetic and physical organic chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, the development of synthetic methods, reaction optimization and mechanisms, reactive chemical hazards and chemical safety, laboratory techniques, chemical education, presentation of demonstrations, and the chemistry of each element. Rigor and attention to detail are the hallmarks of my work, which is captured in 100 peer reviewed publications, with 65 as the lead author. I am an inventor on 14 patents and a contributor to 18 presentations at national ACS meetings. I have an outstanding ability to think critically, analyze, understand, and solve problems. I have twenty years’ experience managing external chemistry teams in the US, UK, China, and India.Throughout my career I have been committed to the nurturing of the next generation of chemists through volunteer work, mentoring of interns, support of chemistry outreach efforts, teaching, and publication of work related to chemical education, including the invention of the Vitamin C clock reaction which is now well known online. My interns and mentees have gone on to pursue independent careers in the sciences and medicine as physicians, professional scientists, professors, and engineers.
