About Stephen Wright
Stephen Wright is an engineer and entrepreneur. He expanded his marine power and automation company, Thomas Electric Control, Inc., into SanSail Group, which included SanSail Institute, SanSail LNGgroup and SanSail Capital. SanSail began in order to build and operate the first zero-emission, propeller-driven vessel in the United States, a project yet to be completed. SanSail Group promoted the cleanest methods of energy use: wind and wind-produced hydrogen, natural gas and gas-derived hydrogen, and hybrid and battery power. SanSail Group did not survive the fall in the price of oil in 2014. The cost of clean marine power went up as the price of oil fell.In the fall of 2015, Stephen Wright formed SanSailTEC, LLC, now called Okra Energy, LLC, with Louis Ravenet, a software entrepreneur and Le Chen, a financial entrepreneur. Okra Energy continued the natural gas liquefaction and distribution focus from the SanSail Group but applied it to supplying power generators in Latin America and the Caribbean instead of the US ship bunkering market. Focusing on the Dominican Republic and Peru, Okra has subsidiaries in those countries as well as strategic partners in other Latin American countries and Jamaica. Mr. Wright served as Chief Innovation Officer for Okra after serving as Chief Technical Officer.Mr. Wright’s has been the Vice President of Briggston, Inc., a Virginia supplier of electric propulsion equipment; and Senior Electrical Engineer at George G. Sharp, Inc., a New York naval architecture and marine engineering company where Mr. Wright managed projects in marine electric control, propulsion, navigation electronics, vessel computer networking, and security systems. He worked with the Staten Island Ferries from 1998 to 2016 and was part of Molinari Class ferry procurement.Mr. Wright is the former Electrical Superintendent of Weeks Marine, Inc. (1989 - 1997), where he was responsible for the electrical systems of over 300 vessels and three ship repair yards.
