I started my Refrigeration / HVAC trade and attended college initially in the UK ,working for York International servicing the Royal Navy vessels in Portsmouth as well as some of the cruise vessels visiting Southampton QE2, Disney vessels etc. I left the UK for Australia where most of the work was land based Breweries, Shopping mall a/c with some refrigeration process work gas compression condensing etc.The next stop was York Marine in Singapore where all the work was on the marine side, attending cruise vessels from various companies P&O,Costa, Radisson,Starcruise etc.this was all Air conditioning and provision store refrigeration work.Other refrigeration work on LPG tankers chemical tankers, FPSO's etc. performing overhauls,upgrades and commissioning.Spent 2 / 3 years commissioning Teknotherm equipment on new build oil rigs and other vessels under various companies.2009 i was hired by Seadrill as a self employed Lead Refrigeration / HVAC project engineer as part of a project team building Oil rigs in Singapore This involved Specification review(upgrade) drawing & design review, FAT's, monitoring construction, commissioning procedures review ,attending commissioning ensuring construction standards eg SMACNA, ASHREA are followed where stipulated and and of course the regularity boards concerned NMA DNV,IMO,SOLAS, MARPOL,ABS, NORSOK USPH BSC etc. As the rig constuction has stopped in recent times i have been working on preservation projects for stacking some of these out of work rigs and drillshipsUntil now i have enjoyed my time in this industry where nobody gives HVAC a second thought until it stops working then it becomes a lot more exiting.
