I have taught privately continuously since 1980, and in institutions and workshops since 1986, including stints at: • Brighton, Sussex and Westminster Universities (1986-2002)• Chichester and Northbrook Colleges (1995-8)• Brighton Institute of Modern Music (2005-7)• Music For Youth (2002-4)• The Orpheus Centre (2011-12)• Voicelab (Southbank Centre, 2008-9)• Brighton, Worthing, Crawley, East Sussex and Chelmsford councils• various language schools, educational school tour companies and the Woodcraft FolkFrom 1995-present I’ve worked on the Prince’s Trust Sound Live and Get Started With Music programmes as Guitar Tutor and, since 2000, Principal Lead Tutor. In 2009 I joined the staff the Irene Taylor Trust’s Music In Prisons programme, facilitating the composition, performance and recording of original material with prisoners over the course of a week.Since 2011 I’ve beenat The Orpheus Centre with disabled young people aiming at an independent life through performing arts. I’ve been running a course teaching music workshop skills with the aim of sending Orpheus students on outreaches, running music-based workshops for others.I have undertaken various educational and consultancy roles for Rockschool Ltd since 1994, including the initial work for the Sound Live course, comprising teaching and establishing course content; composing exam pieces and consultancy on the Rockschool Grades syllabus; seminars for music teachers on contemporary music education; and mentoring for bands and musicians across the UK.I am music consultant and arranger (and a performer) for Stomp’s Lost & Found Orchestra, current holder of the box office record at Sydney Opera House. As a part of that work I liaise with and workshop the various local choirs that we use in the production, and train new company members.Since 2001 I’ve worked with SPIRAL, a recreational service for those with disabilities, providing music and drama workshops, performances, and entertainments.

I have performed as an artist in my own right and as a session musician since the late 1970’s. My own ensembles have included the 35-piece Bacharach-inspired Look Of Love Orchestra, and the multiple-award-winning Brighton Beach Boys. I am currently setting up a small tour in tribute to the wonderful music created by Freddie Phillips for Camberwick Green, Trumpton and Chigley with James guitarist Adrian Oxaal.I am co-composer/arranger/performer for Stomp’s record-breaking Lost and Found Orchestra, which has had sell-out runs in London’s Royal Festival Hall, Sydney Opera House, Brighton Dome, Amsterdam Carré, and, as Pandemonium, a US tour from Miami to Los Angeles.I have also worked with many artists over the years, including Chris Spedding, Love Affair, PJ Proby, Herbie Flowers, Chris Difford, Stephen Kalinich (Beach Boys), Desmond Dekker, Sarah Jane Morris, Nelson Bragg (Brian Wilson), Lightspeed Champion, Andy Roberts, Dee Palmer (Jethro Tull), Cahal Smyth (Madness), Bernard Purdie, Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers, Elastica, Clear Lake, David Courtney, Neil Innes and Paul SteelIn addition, I have performed and written with many comedians, including Phil Nichol, Boothby Graffoe, Paul Zenon, Lorraine Bowen, Joanna Neary, Steve Steen, Louise Rennison and Graham Duff. Currently to be heard on David Courtney’s new album The Show Must Go On, alongside Paul McCartney and David Gilmour; and on the newrelease from Stephen Kalinich, California Feeling which features many of the Beach Boys’ family members, among others.
