Commodity Monitor is a tech-based business organisation that is into direct trading and generates compelling research information on soft and hard commodities. It promotes competitive value and supply chain processes for consumption with the aim of promoting regional trade, food security and sustained economic development in Africa. Commodity Monitor provides business advisories on global commodities for governments, private companies, and individuals. It utilises online platform and data analytics to generate exchange of information on sustainable production, supply and consumption of commodities in Africa.What's my role? I lead in strategy development, research and communication in agriculture, metals and oil and gas, with the aim of driving data for value chain development. I am working on providing strategic direction to Commodity Monitor and to make it a 'go-to' organization in commodity trading and the role it plays in Africa's economic transformation.

Center for Social Impact Studies (CeSIS) works at the international, national and grassroots level to empower local communities affected by mining and oil activities in Ghana and Africa. This is done by analysing policies and contributing to the implementation of the right set of policies that leverage social and economic outcomes.1. I coordinate research work on development issues that culminate in press statements and reports for governmental action in the extractive sector especially in the nascent oil and gas sector2. In 2011, I contributed to field survey, questionnaire administration and data analysis for Publish What You Pay-Ghana's Revenue Tracking Project in Ghana's oil frontline districts. 3. I was part of the team that conducted research and drafted the 2014 report 'Community Development Agreements in Ghana's Mining Industry', funded by United Nations Development Programme and Third World Network. 4. I also contributed to the 2015 report 'Sub-national mineral revenue management', which was funded by Natural Resources Governance Institute (NRGI).

I worked as administrator for the Africa Energy Portal (AEP), an initiative of the Energy Financial Solutions, Policy and Regulations Department of the African Development Bank. The AEP provides energy data, statistics and insights on Africa’s energy sector. I updated the AEP with daily news and provided content management to the operations of the Portal. I provided policy and research contents for the Portal, including drafting of articles, blogs and detailed country profiles.

As Digital Development Communications Consultant, I helped the Communication and External Relations Department better shape and create policy and development contents in Africa and beyond, better engage with stakeholders through innovative communication solutions on commodities [agriculture, etc.], energy and climate, finance, and sustainable development. I contributed to drafting policy messaging documents and strategic Op-Eds for key events like Annual Meetings 2018 and Africa Investment Forum. The policy messaging document guided communication engagements. I contributed to social media communications and reviewing and copy-editing contents.

Working with the Policy, Economics and Analytics unit at the African Natural Resources Center (ANRC), I contribute to collecting and analysing data, conducting literature and media research to inform the ANRC’s policy development, preparing reports and presentations.1. I worked on four analytical project and policy studies: (1) value chain analyses of Africa’s extractive sector (2) Land tenure and agriculture transformation in Africa (3) Illicit financial flows and institutions in Africa’s extractive sector and (4) Assessing the capacity of Africa governments on financial modelling on projects in Africa’s extractive sector.2. Data collection and analysis: In liaison with other relevant Bank departments, I collect various forms of data pertaining to areas of operation of the ANRC. Interprets, presents data through charts, graphs and other visual forms; draws conclusions, and discusses with ANRC staff.2. Literature Research: Regularly conducts research of literature in order to inform ANRC of trends, news, issues arising relative to natural resources spanning both renewable and non-renewable sectors.3. Technical Research. Independently conducts policy research, supports knowledge management within the ANRC, through systematisation of research and information sources, in particular through the ANRC knowledge portal.

The Africa Progress Panel (APP) consists of ten distinguished individuals from the private and public sector who advocate for equitable and sustainable development for Africa. Mr Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel laureate, chairs the APP and is closely involved in its day-to-day work.My work involved the framing, analysis and writing of core issues affecting Africa’s developmental efforts through the conduct of policy research and analysis. These policy issues on natural resources (mining and oil and gas) governance, agriculture and fisheries, and energy and climate have culminated in the annual flagship Africa Progress Reports. 1. Published policy-oriented articles and blogs on issues including agriculture and natural resource governance.2. Drafted and implemented communication strategy to engage African governments, business leaders, media and CSOs. I created a LinkedIn platform for APP and was a lead strategist on Facebook and Twitter communications.3. Gathered and analysed data on natural resources, energy and climate, and agriculture that were interpreted in the form of compelling charts, graphs and infographics for research and communications.4. Managed the reporting and monitoring of policy issues and developments at the local, regional and international levels that informed APP’s work agenda. This was also a knowledge and information platform.5. Contributed to the framing, research and analysis of policies in Africa, leading to the Africa Progress Report 2014 “Grain, Fish, Money: Financing Africa’s Green and Blue Revolutions” and APR 2015 ‘Power, People, Planet: Seizing Africa’s energy and climate opportunities’. I led policy discussions on entrepreneurship in Africa’s agriculture and energy sectors, which are discussed in the reports.

The purpose of this study was to explore the linkages between the extractive sector and agriculture to see to what extent the extractive sector can contribute to catalyse efforts to improve productivity and competitiveness in the agricultural sector and to foster the development of value chains, where there is a business case to do so. The research sought to answer the following questions: (1) Where the agriculture and extractive sectors co-exist, what is the scope to foster linkages? (2) What methods have been used and what impacts did they have? (3) Is there any evidence where resources from the extractive sector (in this case gold) have been used to support the agricultural sector, both in Ghana and in the West African region? How strong are those linkages? (4) What types of outcomes are observed (for e.g in terms of participation in food value chains, participation in to regional markets, processing investments)? (5) What are the key challenges hindering linkages and how can these be unlocked? What are the opportunities and what type of innovative policies and strategies are needed to promote competitiveness, efficiency and sustainable linkages and value chains? The work involved was to lead research on the broad theme ‘Using the extractive sector to leverage agricultural value chain in Ghana’. Using qualitative data in two mining districts – Amansie Central and Asutifi – this research delved into the interactions between gold mining [Newmont Gold Ghana Limited and Artisanal and Small Scale Mining] and agriculture and the impact on value chains of cocoa, maize and plantain.

Liaised with the CCDA-IV technical committee in order to extract key messages from documentation, speeches, feedback etc., both in relation to events (workshops and conferences) and ACPC field projects2. The ClimDev-Africa Facebook page had 124 likes. From 2-12 October 2014, the period covering CCDA-IV, the number reached 4,703. On twitter, followers increased from 304 in September 2014 to about 1,200 as at January 2015.3. Implemented measures for integrating communications via different social media channels, as well as to ClimDev-Africa website4. Prepared a document on techniques that ClimDev-Africa can utilize to measure the reach, impact and effectiveness of its social media engagement.5. In consultation with ACPC, carried out social media marketing campaign for other ACPC events including the 3rd SIDS conference, the UN Climate Summit and COP206. In consultation with ACPC communications team, undertook campaigns to increase followers of ClimDev-Africa on social media platforms7. Led social media communication in the Fourth Climate Change and Development Conference in Africa (CCDA-IV), Marrakech, Morocco in September 2014.8. Worked closely with the ACPC Coordinator and team members in implementing a social media strategy that integrates with dissemination activities via mediums like websites, print and audio-visual.9. Extracted key messages from documentation and speeches on climate change and energy in Africa and liaise with the ClimDev-Africa team to package this information for dissemination.

1. I contributed to the conceptualization of data collection to data analysis in the Evaluation Function of 29 organizations in the United Nations System. Here, I joined in data collection interviews in Geneva and carried out qualitative analysis of interview notes.2. I took the lead in developing conceptual and graphical illustrations of the logic model used to assess the evaluation functions of JIU-participating UN organizations.3. I contributed to the conceptualization of the maturity model that measures the evaluation activities of UN organizations and assessed organizations including WIPO, UN-Habitat, ITC, FAO, among others.4. I conducted organizational research into the evaluation functions and programmes in the UN System and engaged in analysis of self-evaluation of JIU towards quality assurance.
