Concepting Chief Architect
In 2008, Nokia introduced a new group named PCAP (Product Concepting and Planning) which would oversee the entire product roadmap and create the platform requirements for all future products. I was appointed as the chief architect for the group of 46 architects located in 9 different sites. We collected and analyzed product specific requirements and produced feasibility analyses, and later worked with product managers to accept the solutions. Technically represented PCAP in platform architecture meetings trying to improve the productization of the Series 60 platform. This effort resulted into Series 60’s first draft into becoming plug-n-play allowing much faster integration with new hardware. One exciting part of the job was working with product managers to help them understand technologies and help drive application requirements and in turn help adoption of technologies, such as CAN, NFC, 360-Navigation into the Nokia mobile devices.
Chief Architect
Lead the entire San Diego Series 60 team with over 20 engineers delivering software to the products as well as to the platform. My team played a critical role in Nokia’s effort to reintroduce Series 60 devices to the US market. With my Symbian expertise, I facilitated the re-establishment of S60 competencies in San Diego and trained the new S60 development team. Analyzed the requirements from AT&T, and coordinated with the Series 60 platform teams to plan implementation and delivery. Liaison between the product creation management and the platform architecture team, responsible of introducing new technologies applicable to the new product. Was able to shave $7 million from the production costs with the optimization technology which reduced the RAM requirements for the Nokia 6550 device.
R&D Specialist
Joined Nokia’s Series 40 group in a special request to join a power-team of twelve to implement the Verizon UI for Nokia’s mid-range mobile products, thus entering into the Verizon market within a single year. I took ownership of several components that I was responsible of their design and implementation while ensured a successful integration with components delivered by other global teams. In an effort to stabilize older components in Series 40 took initiative to stabilize the SMS stack and re-implement the EMS stack as well as rewrite older code written in Plato and into Object Oriented C (not same as Objective-C). Together with another team member took initiate to help stabilize and review all code deliverables from our power-team. Furthermore I implemented all the media conversion utilities necessary for the Verizon UI device.

Joined the Nokia Series 60 team in San Diego which was responsible of creating the first Series 60 CDMA phone. I was appointed as team and technical lead for the online photo album application for Sprint and technically led four developers. At the time in which I joined the team the project was 14 weeks behind schedule. After an exciting 6 months, the project was successfully delivered 2 weeks ahead of schedule in a state of 98% maturity. This success was followed up with the creation of the first prototype implementation for Sprint’s Push-to-talk.

Having been the component owner for the GSM SMS messaging subsystem, I was selected to join the international assignment as a team and technical lead to create a new Symbian office in Vancouver, Canada. Our primary objective was to create a CDMA SMS stack worthy of becoming part of the Symbian OS platform. I personally designed the new CDMA Messaging subsystem and was one of the technical leads responsible for the entire stack. Responsibilities included to hire local talent and train them in Symbian C++ and eventually lead the messaging team to develop the new components. In addition I was one of the technical interfaces that was sent to Nokia to review their ongoing stack implementation and negotiate interfaces. Symbian successfully completed the design and implementation of the CDMA SMS stack in a single year which overtook Nokia’s effort running three years up until that time. I participated and played key role in the negotiations with Nokia that they should dump their own implementation in favour of Symbian’s platform friendly version which was also binary compatible with the existing GSM SMS stack.

Joined the messaging team and eventually became the component owner for the GSM SMS messaging subsystem, which later became the basis for the CDMA SMS stack. During this period I participated in the implementation of security features and helped the migration of the messaging servers to utilize the new OS security infrastructure.

In its brief existence, I convinced the management to migrate the development from Java to the .NET platform and trained the developers in the C# language. In a very short time, we managed to implement a working prototype of the presence management server and a presence client with a SQL Server as its back end. The application Protocol was based on the PAM forum specifications.

Hired specifically due to the topic of my degree thesis on intrusion detection. Part of the team I participated in the architecture redesign for version 2.0 and became owner of several component. I also wrote several product related tools such as database backup service - moving 2 GB of data per day, data mining and reporting tool - which generated reports with Crystal Reports as well as created the product installer with Install Shield. I was also responsible for running the product builds and bi-weekly product release.

These included high profile systems like the student finance system, invoice system and student load system. Development platform was Microsoft Windows while the programming language was Visual Basic with a SQL back-end. Also created the first web based issue reporting and tracking system for the university. A proud moment was that in two days+nights, I was able to hand-decrypt Microsoft's Access 97 passwords because the University's financials where locked after an employee left. Used paper and pen along with a cornucopia of encrypted password samples. Back in the day, Microsoft was not using cryptographic hashes.

Accepted the challenge to move to the United Kingdom through the European international student exchange program Leonardo Da Vinci. The objective was to do research in the field of Genetic Algorithms based at the University of Glamorgan and funded by the German corporation Daimler-Benz. The focus of the research was to create an algorithm that could efficiently determine the minimum and maximum execution times of Real Time Systems. The result of this research became the entry criteria for my bachelors degree at the same university as well as the resulting algorithm became the basis of the doctoral project for a post-graduate student.
