About Stephen Barrington
Stephen Barrington is the Director of Economic Development in Harnett County, North Carolina. Before being named Director in September 2023, Stephen served in the same role in neighboring Sampson County. He has largely held economic and workforce development leadership roles since the end of 1999 when he was hired as Economic Development Manager with Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce.Stephen currently serves on the Executive Committee of Southeastern Economic Development Commission, in southeastern North Carolina, and as an ex-officio Board Member with Mid-Carolina Workforce Development Board. He is a former elected Town Commissioner and Mayor Pro-Tem in the Town of Wake Forest (2003-2007), and a former recipient of a 40 Under 40 designation from the Triangle Business Journal (2001). Stephen completed the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute in 2021. He also earned an MPA and Bachelor’s of Science degrees from Western Carolina University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mars Hill College.
