  • Hatch
    Intermediate Structural Designer
    Hatch May 2018 - Mar 2021
    Saskatoon
At Hatch I was employed as an intermediate Structural designer. My responsibilities included creating Structural steel and concrete design drawings using various programs including, AECOsim, Micro-station, Structural XM, AutoCAD and sometimes Revit. During my time with hatch I had many great opportunities. From May 2019 - May 2020, I worked remotely with the Hatch Sudbury office as one of a six person design team to complete the K3 south shaft headframe design. My responsibilities included drawings from 5 separate floors of the headframe that began construction in fall of 2020. More recently I have been working with a skilled team of engineers and designers, working from 3 different offices (Saskatoon, Mississauga, and St Petersburg) to bring a complex set of drawings over the the IFC line. This project required that I learn Russian GOST structural drawing standards of drafting.During my first year with Hatch, I was required to learn Micro-station and AECOsim. (the micro-station structural suite.) I quickly discovered that Micro-station was a very intricate program with many tricks to learn. In response I started creating video tutorials to help me retain my understanding of the programs. I began sharing the tutorials with other members of my office and I quickly discovered that other members of the hatch team were finding great value in the videos. My efforts were recognized by hatch corporate and I was offered the chance join the DPD team, to design a series of tutorial videos with the intention of helping new hires with hatch become familiar with MicroStation more efficiently. Currently the videos I created boot up with the program every time it starts up, providing new users with easy tips and help when they are unable to troubleshoot the problems on their own.
