About Stephen Dare

Beginning in 1980, with 40+ years of experience, including 30+ years at major research universities, Steve brings knowledge gained in eight fundraising campaigns to his clients. In 1986, he joined The Johns Hopkins University, working for the Whiting School of Engineering and helped raise over $27M for engineering during the $644M, “Campaign for Johns Hopkins”. At Boston College as Director of Development for Endowment and Capital Programs, he managed field activity that raised $130M over two mini-campaigns. In 1998, he became Director of Resource Development at MIT and was chief operating officer for the $2B “Campaign for MIT”, and upon completion of that effort in 2004, organized the $500M Campaign for Students, which launched ahead of pace in 2008, in excess of $300M, and was successfully completed in 2011, exceeding the goal, reaching $578M.For five years beginning in 2008, Steve was appointed Vice President for College Relations at Union College, an elite top 40 liberal arts institution. Working with institutional leaders and volunteers, the “You are Union Campaign” was successfully completed, exceeding its goal, on time, at $258M in 2012. In 2013, Steve joined the University of Rochester as Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Programs, directing the efforts of the four River Campus schools to exceed their goals within the $1.2B “Meliora Challenge”. From February, 2014 to June, 2015 he was asked to add the role of Chief Operating Officer for Advancement, during a period of transition in the CAO position. He added Advancement Services, Finance and Administration, Regional Programs and Annual Giving during this time period.Joining the "Power of Penn" campaign in 2018 he focused on undergraduate support.From the 1980's to the present Steve has presented at CASE conferences as well as organized sessions and panels in both Districts 1 and 2. He completed an eight year term on the District 2 board, including the position of Chair.
