The primary program I will be working on is the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, which recently posted translations of its third edition international guidelines in Chinese, Persian, Japanese, Portuguese, French, Spanish and German, in addition to English.In my role, I manage the Surviving Sepsis Campaign's quality improvement learning collaborative to move the international guidelines for the treatment and management of severe sepsis and septic shock into hospital medical, surgical and telemetry units. Our focus is on the early recognition and treatment of sepsis on hospital floors. We have 60 hospitals participating in four regional collaboratives: West Coast, Midwest and East Coast, including 10 Adventist Health System hospitals in their own collaborative. The overall initiative is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation with support from AHS. The final outcome of the project will be the development of an international consensus statement for sepsis care outside the ICU or ED. This effort is conducted in collaboration with the Society of Hospital Medicine.I am also managing Project Dispatch, a U.S. Agency for Health Research and Quality-funded effort over two years to share patient-centered outcomes research initiatives with the society's members on topics as broad-ranging as family presence, pet therapy, improved clinician-patient communication in end-of-life care, and the use of patient or family satisfaction surveys in ICU care. The society shares this information through many communications channels including webcasts, podcasts, articles, and live programs.
