-Conduct research on the traffic flow patterns in Clemson on Football game days and on states of the practice and propose and evaluate new travel demand management strategies.-Write a thesis on the research and possibly submit it for publication in a professional journal.

I took a summer internship with this excellent firm in the Traffic/ITS office to broaden my professional horizons, and further develop the creative value and critical thinking skills I bring to design firms. Our team designs, models, and plans for much of Georgia's (and other areas') transportation network, including signals, highways, and ITS.While I interned, I did the following, sometimes in assistance of others:-Designed and Upgraded signalized intersections near Atlanta, GA, to be compliant with the new 2010 ADA Guidelines and to use Flashing Yellow Arrows.-Created a crash history and location geodatabase in ArcGIS for Peachtree Rd., Buckhead, GA, used to conduct a traffic safety analysis and improve safety in Buckhead.-Modeled traffic behavior for innovative interchanges near Savannah, GA, in Synchro and VISSIM.-Modeled macroscopic traffic behavior on Atlanta's Downtown Connector based upon the 2010 HCM and HCS.-Assembled plans for traffic signals and advanced traffic management ITS in Atlanta and N. Georgia.-Made current our team's repository of GDOT design specifications and guides and provided an organized format of data storage and access.

Conducted research into the behavioral relationships in transportation systems for various projects assigned by the Transportation Area professors including the following: data collection for an access management database in SC, speed profiles for a VISSIM model of the I-26 Corridor, and research into contract management ethics.

SCDOT - Engineering Division hired me to work as an intern in the Dorchester Construction field office. Phone: (843) 873-5763. The rate was 11 $/hr and didn't change for the duration of the internship. My supervisor (and RCE) was Turner B. Guess.My duties were as follows:-Assisted field inspectors in surveying for road construction, testing of constructed materials, and on-sight regulation of construction for conformance with SCDOT Standard Specifications.-Assisted project managers by updating work reports and cut-and-place sheets.It was an enjoyable experience as I got to see highways (some right next to my house) as they were being constructed, and was able to test the materials and check quantities. It introduced me to the "nitty-gritty" of highway engineering in practice.
