Yang Research Group*Developed and adapted advanced techniques for quantitative STEM microscopy and spectroscopy. *Composed image analysis programs for high-throughput application to large, statistically robust S/TEM data sets. *Headed and coordinated a research project team comprised of members from academia (U.Pitt, GA Tech), national laboratory (BNL), and industry (Hitachi High Technologies America).*Collaborated extensively with multiple research groups, companies, and a government agency to provide analytical S/TEM and in situ ETEM characterization on a wide range of materials systems. *Assisted in the writing and preparation of funding proposals (DOE, NSF, MRSEC).*Mentored graduate and undergraduate group members on experimental, analytical, and communication techniques and skills.

*Contributed to the development of defect/dislocation structure electron tomography.*Trained and mentored graduate students on S/TEM techniques and data analysis.*Managed the preparation of group lab equipment and materials for transfer to other groups and transport to the university (Wisconsin-Madison) the group would be moving to.

*Developed and adapted new 3D and in situ analytical S/TEM techniques for light metal hydrides, allowing for the direct characterization of their structure and its effect on hydrogen storage performance.*Revealed the importance of defect-dopant interactions in early-stage hydrogenation of Ti-catalyzed Al at the atomic scale using in situ STM.*Collaborated with other academic and national laboratory research groups on interdisciplinary projects across diverse fields.*Prepared and delivered presentations, published journal articles, and wrote reports to communicate results to professional societies, industrial sponsors, and governmental agencies.
