Working as a Senior Digital and IT Strategy Consultant for the Director of Group IT Strategy & Architecture, Stephen fulfilled a combination of Business Analysis, Project Management and IT Strategy roles. Coordination and management of stakeholders from across the globe.Agile Digital Solutions - SharePoint Portal Development:Using an Agile methodology Stephen designed, developed and delivered several digital solutions hosted on SharePoint using the SharePoint Designer tool. Two key solutions were developed for a portal to manage an Aviva Group wide mobile apps development competition allowing competitors to upload their entries and judges to capture their comments and scores, and a portal to allow the Aviva digital innovations team to present new ideas to Aviva staff for comment and rating. He received two recognition awards for providing innovative and cost saving solutions to complex business problems utilising a ‘lightweight’ and flexible delivery approach.

In response to rapidly evolving business requirements Stephen was responsible for documenting the detailed requirements, scope and prioritisation of a high impact initiative to comprehensively re-design Aviva’s Health insurance customer self-service portal including the consolidation and integration of over 15 third party micro sites. The scope of the project focused on current web technology, enhanced customer experience, understanding customer wants and needs, customer demographics, web analytics and competitor analysis. Stephen designed and ran 15 workshops to elicit the detailed requirements for key self-service transactions successfully influencing and negotiating with each of the ten key product owners to agree scope and product priorities including home page presence and ‘call to action’ functionality. Stephen acted as the central reference point and information source, bridging the gap between senior stakeholders, requirements providers and the e-commerce design team.

Stephen was responsible for the migration of business content from a legacy intranet platform to a Microsoft SharePoint global intranet platform providing business analysis and project management for the audit and migration of 12,000 existing HR, Shared Services and IT Support web pages. Key business analyst tasks included the selection of valid content, design and build of the SharePoint portal structure, navigation design (user experience), data mapping, physical migration of content, user acceptance testing and implementation. Key project management tasks included project planning, creation of testing and implementation plans, issues and risks management and project reporting. Stephen also designed the data migration process for the data audit, data mapping and physical migration of content, and coordinated 3 migration operatives creating, managing and reporting on daily task schedules.Stephen collaborated with user experience experts to design the new portal structure and navigation using card sorting techniques. He coordinated and managed 12 business content owners to map existing content to the new information architecture, introducing an agile methodology for the UK configuration and data migration project. This agile approach was adopted by the Global Programme as best practice and rolled out to other Aviva change teams across the globe. The successful audit of legacy content resulted in a 90% reduction of pages to be migrated from 12,000 to 1,200.

As part of the corporate rebrand of Norwich Union to Aviva, Stephen delivered the re-branding of all literature and IT systems within the Aviva UK Life Insurance corporate distribution and retail distribution business channels. As project manager he was accountable for detailed planning (Microsoft Project), budget forecasts and control, risks and issues management, managing change requests, stakeholder communications plan and project status reporting. As business analyst he was accountable for eliciting and documenting detailed requirements, designing and documenting the re-brand solution, managing senior stakeholders and task management of two business analysts.Stephen employed an IBM Quality Management System (QMS) methodology and associated project governance to the project delivery. The requirements document and solution design document that he produced were adopted as exemplars by the wider programme.

Stephen provided a complete set of business analysis artefacts covering the full system development life-cycle. He also fulfilled a project management role responsible for several work streams and representing the project at the senior programme level bridging the gap between business delivery teams and IT developers.Key tasks included documenting functional and non-functional business requirements, developing project plans, developing use cases, business process modelling/re-engineering, effective stakeholder management of multiple business sponsors and senior business/IT stakeholders, project governance and coordination of the project decision making process including risks and issues management. Stephen also coached a Business Analyst within the project team leading to greater customer satisfaction.As a result of a budget constraint, Stephen undertook a review of the project scope and provided a key revision of the cost benefit analysis at a crucial point in the delivery life cycle. The resulting 'de-scope' proposal was accepted by sponsors, meeting required cost reductions whilst retaining 80% of the projected benefits.
