Mission Statement: Homeless Services of Aroostook, Inc. strives to end homelessness, feed the hungry, and assist individuals in pursuing a self-sustaining life. Reports to the Board of Directors and while providing vision and input, carries out their policies and desires. After assuming the position of Executive Director, implemented 'best practices' to ensure a safe, drug and alcohol free operation in the Sister Mary O'Donnell Emergency Homeless Shelter and the Transitional Housing component of the organization. The Shelter is a 43-bed facility and is the only Homeless Shelter for families and the general public in Aroostook County, Maine with a population of over 72,000. Transitional Housing provides 15 low-income rental units for families with children. While managing a staff of 10, performs the duties of Executive Director, Human Resources, Fund Raising / Development, Public Relations, and IT Support, with supervision involvement in all other facets of the non-profit organization.

Manager of a small staff of technicians who install, troubleshoot, and repair at the bench level and in the field, all types of 2-way radio communication and telemetry equipment. Managed the schedule of all technicians to meet the needs of a very diverse customer base; from Police and Fire Departments to potato farmers. Involved with every department of the company including wireless internet service provider; IT support services; PC repair; telephone systems, DVR camera surveillance systems, and building security systems sales and service. Project manager for the projects outside the scope of normal operations.

Due to the current economic condition of our country right now, especially in the non-profit sector, my position at Uptown Shelter was eliminated. I decided to re-establish my own IT consulting company again, having over 32 years experience in the industry in a multitude of different roles. Currently consulting on a few website designs, development, and implementation projects for personal businesses, public libraries and state library associations. Completed a new website for the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (http://www.arsl.info) and in the process of creating a new website for the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library (soon to be http://www.presqueislelibrary.org). Also studying for Microsoft certifications as time permits.

Dissolved my consulting company to assume the role of Director of Information Technology as an employee instead of contractor support. As a one person department and part of the senior management team, I was responsible for all facets of IT and communications within the organization including, but not limited to, project management of multiple concurrent projects; budgetary responsibility; providing the vision for IT for the organization; network and servers administration; maintenance, installation, and configuration of all newly acquired hardware and software; troubleshooting and repair of failed hardware; maintain the organization’s website; help desk support for the entire staff of 25 and volunteers; PBX telephone system support with unified communications; installed and maintained the camera security system and kiosk touch-screen informational system; and responsibility for anything computer based including the HVAC system and the networked digital copier.

Served as Director of Information Technology for the Uptown Men’s Homeless Shelter in Charlotte, NC. Migrated network server from Windows NT4.0 to Windows 2003 domain server environment and email from POP3 accounts to Exchange 2003 server. Added multiple Windows 2003 servers to the domain to accommodate growth of additional applications. Acted as network administrator and technical support of the servers and 25 workstations running Windows XP Pro which included a computer training lab for Shelter residents. Performed all hardware and software installations, troubleshooting, repair, training, and administration. Developed database systems in Alpha Five DBMS to address volunteer tracking requirements and in Microsoft Access to enhance communications among staff. Also served as Project Manager for a new Shelter Information Management System to track all resident activity and information, the backbone application for the organization. Provided technical consultant support for future hardware and software needs.

Designed and wrote computer application systems in Visual Basic 6.0 language in support of Anacomp Data Centers providing document management services. Performed all duties through project development lifecycle including development of Functional Specification and Design document, project time projections, actual development of program(s) within project, package and deployment, user documentation, and user training. Majority of applications developed addressed needs in Data Centers related to document imaging. Received certification as a Certified Document Imaging Architect (CDIA).

Managed overall operations including Computer Output to Microfiche/Microfilm (COM) and Document/Data Imaging Services, Technical Support, Lab Processing, and Administrative Support Departments. Designed, implemented, and served as Administrator of internal 50 node Novell version 4.1 Local Area Network. Served as Administrator of internal Lotus cc:Mail E-Mail Post Office system and remote users. Implemented and served as Administrator of Lantronix network remote access server with shared modems. Performed all hardware and software installation, configuration, training, and troubleshooting on internal personal computers, peripherals, and office equipment. Served as computer network and physical building Security Manager. Programmed Anacomp microfiche/microfilm recorders. Designed and created automated monthly billing system for COM Department. Assisted marketing staff both technically and with marketing strategies. Developed and implemented data conversion services. Implemented and managed internal voicemail system, PBX system, courier cellular phone service, branch office BBS and pager system, and customer telecommunications systems.

Pilot for this position developing regional policies and procedures. Served as Manager of five Field Systems Analysts. Provided technical consultant support for Anacomp and customer personnel within region and for corporate Anacomp Product Planning and Marketing Division. Designed and wrote technical “spec” for PC based Anatrac Microfiche Accounting and Chargeback System. Wrote additional programs and RDBMS for customers to address specific needs. Selected as pilot project team member for technical integration of an imaging and optical disk storage system.

Provided technical instruction for Programmers, Business Analysts, and JCL Technicians assigned to responsible projects within an IBM mainframe environment. Designed and implemented Bar Coded Split Ticket Garment Tag and Bar Coded Store Shelf Bin Label projects for merchandise reordering, which at that time was leading edge technology. Systems tested IBM personal computer based Electronic Ordering Receiving System utilizing voice response modems and trained Data Control Department personnel in its use.

Researched, presented, and installed IBM System 36 (5362) in a medical office to convert billing and patient accounting from a service bureau environment. Provided additional consulting services for other medical offices.

Performed complete hospital analysis in preparation for a new hospital information management system. Functioned as Data Processing liaison for all hospital medical staff and clinical departments. Served on hospital’s Management Information Systems Committee, the Data Processing decision-making body.

Served as Remote R.J.E. Site Manager. Served as Shift Supervisor of 20 Marines on IBM systems 4341 and 360 mod 65 including three remote sites. Installed, analyzed, and debugged new processing systems. Streamlined, optimized, and increased efficiency in existing processing systems to meet production cycle scheduling and user demands. Diagnosed errors in abnormally terminated procedures. Performed classified material control and system protection procedures. Developed new policies and procedures to ensure processing accountability.
