After 35 years as a trademark lawyer including being recognized as Volunteer of the Year by INTA, winning the Domain Name Policy of the Year Award by IP Magazine chairing the Midyear Meeting of INTA, chairing more than 5 INTA educational programs and multiple committees for the ABA and NYIPLA, teaching as an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School, founding the Trademark Group at Day Pitney and growing it from nothing to a $5 million practice, and arguing precedential cases before the 9th and 3rd Circuit, I have decided to focus my energies in new directions. My successes are more satisfying because I constantly battled the problems of dyslexia. Lawyers tend to be unforgiving of typos and spelling mistakes believing they reflect laziness or worse. I have often quoted Andrew Jackson who in response to John Quincy Adams's efforts to paint him as ignorant and uneducated retorted, "I pity the man whose imagination is so limited he can only think of one way to spell any particular word." The clients I developed were those who understood that dyslexia and bad spelling do not negate thought leadership and creative problem solving. During those early years I was fortunate to be mentored by a labor partner (Adin Goldberg) who advanced my career always knowing that I wanted to exit labor law and by a trademark partner at Baker Hostetler (Bruce Baumgartner, may his memory be a blessing) whose encouragement and counsel during the first ten years of my career helped sustain my dream. Later I was fortunate to hire an administrative assistant (Anna Lisnyansky) who followed me to two firms and is now part of the management team at Kilpatrick. Whatever success I have had I owe to these three colleagues. I am indebted to them. .Of course, the last 15 years I have been fortunate to work with Marc Lieberstein and Barry Benjamin and hope that I have mentored them at least half as well as they deserved. They have been loyal and supportive colleagues.

I was the head of the Trademark Copyright Group and over five years grew that practice to 8 lawyers, 2 paralegals and three clerks.
