My role was to design and develop new novel processes invented by Carbon Cycle Ltd.; initialy this was based around their carbon capture and utilisation project but later moved on to a calcium mineral purification project, of which i am a co-inventor. My job involved evolving the processes from basic concepts through to a substantial process design for a basis of design for FEED study and ultimately to prepare for a detailed design.Below are examples of some of the types of experience I have gained in the role: - Created heat and material balances- Developed preliminary plant cost calculations- Designed and produced PFDs- Created plant carbon footprint calculations- Produced equipment datasheets- Designed and developed ProSimPlus simulations- Performed risk assessments- Participated in HAZID reviews- Assisted pilot plant commissioning- Led and supported process & equipment optimisation- Supported writing of patents and securing of IP- Conducted patent and literature reviews- Presented experimental analysis with recommendations to senior management- Led process design reviews- Coordinated and participated in experimental testing- Reviewed documents from third party consultant e.g. P&IDs, Analysis Reports, etc.- Supported scale-up development on limited budgets- Developed and created reaction and equilibrium models- Created and reviewed SOPs for experimental work- Interpreted and analysed experimental data- Co-invented a calcium mineral purification process (patent pending)

I spent 5 months at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the USA working on a research project entitled ‘Metabolism Of Terpenoid Indole Alkaloids From Catharanthus Roseus Hairy Roots’.The project involved planning and conducting research work with the advice of my supervisor and producing an interim and final report on the project.

I took up an industrial placement year part way through my degree. I worked for DPS (Bristol) Ltd as a Process Engineer. Most of the projects I worked on were related to FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) topsides. I also worked on a project involved in waste to energy technology.
