Helping our three farmers' markets continue to be the best in Wales

Overseeing the management and development of Cardiff's farmers' markets and devising a range of innovative food and health related outreach and education programmes in the local community; providing advice and support to local food initiatives in Wales and Internationally; developing the RCMA Market Garden, a local horticulture cooperative.

Steve brings many years of direct ‘on the ground’ experience to his current role as a freelance sustainable food and social enterprise consultant. As Founding Director of RCMA Social Enterprise Ltd., Steve steered the award-winning Riverside Market through thirteen years of growth to becoming the largest farmers’ market in Wales, and has initiated various spin-off activities such as: setting up four other markets in Cardiff; overseeing RCMA’s education and outreach activities, such as the Riverside Community Garden; co-writing the RCMA Urban Farmers' Market Toolkit; and helping develop the RCMA Market Garden project - a co-operatively owned social enterprise which grows certified organic produce for sale to residents and restaurants and provides training in organic horticulture. Recently Steve set up ‘Get Ffresh!’ – Cardiff’s pop-up local food shopSteve is included in the 2009 Sustain Wales ‘Green List’ of Welsh environmental activists, was winner in 2010 of an Inspire Wales Awards and a finalist in the 2011 and 2012 Leading Wales Awards. He worked as a Grant Advisor and Assessor for the ‘Local Food’ and ‘Making Local Food Work’ programme. Steve is a Skillshare Mentor with the Plunkett Foundation, a Dynamo enterprise mentor for Menter a Busnes, works with the Social Enterprise Support Project at the Wales Co-operative Centre, is an enterprise mentor with Renew Wales and a member of the F3 local food consultancy. Recently he directed the launch of the Cardiff Food Charter and is a founding member of the Cardiff Food Council.Steve has an MSc in Urban Agriculture from Cardiff University, and alongside his work in Wales, he is currently working with women’s organisations in Zimbabwe and Uganda to set up rural food production/marketing cooperatives.Steve writes a regular ‘Go Green’ blog for the Western Mail and is a Community Reporter with BBC Radio Wales, and was a presenter at the 2012 Observer TEDx talks.
