Understanding the properties and behavior of black holes in an astrophysical environment is of utmost importance to improving their detection and observability. During my PhD work, motivated by this premise, I concentrated on examining the response of a black hole due to the gravitational influence of an orbiting body. This process combined tools from differential geometry, calculus and numerical computing to produce animations of black hole event horizons using the Mayavi data visualization package. The result illustrates the fluid dynamics behavior of the horizon albeit with a negative viscosity. I was also involved in a collaboration which focussed on modeling the complexities of a black hole binary inspiral. We did so by analyzing the signals from a time-domain numerical simulation and mapping them to an analytical formalism.As a physicist in training, I enjoy problem-solving, numerical analysis and large-scale cloud computing. In my spare time, I like to hone my maths and programming skills by solving Euler problems and participating in TopCoder marathons. I am also excited by real-world problems involving geometry and graph analysis.
