  • Partners Healthcare
    Clinical Informatics Resident Elective Trainee
    Partners Healthcare Sep 2015 - Oct 2015
    Greater Boston Area
During my elective time in residency, I had the opportunity to work with the Partners Healthcare Clinical Informatics group, where I gained valuable insights into the field of clinical informatics. I engaged in a variety of activities, including seminars, didactic sessions, mentorship with faculty, journal clubs, and independent reading, which helped me develop a comprehensive understanding of the progress, opportunities, and challenges in this field. Notably, I collaborated with Dr. David Y. Ting on evaluating the impact of medical scribes in different clinical settings, conducting structured interviews with patients to assess their experience with scribes in the physician-patient encounter. I also presented an article on real-time prediction of mortality, readmission, and length of stay at the faculty journal club, where I learned about the importance of design and reporting guidelines for clinical prediction studies, such as the TRIPOD guideline. Overall, this elective was an enriching experience that further fueled my interest in utilizing informatics in my future clinical and research endeavors.
  • Washington University School Of Medicine In St. Louis
Intensive Predoctoral Trainee - Tl1 Clinical Research Program
Washington University School Of Medicine In St. Louis Jul 2011 - Jun 2012
    St Louis, Missouri, United States
The TL1 program provided me with a comprehensive education consisting of 33 credit hours of coursework in various areas including statistics, clinical trial design, epidemiology, scientific writing and publishing, ethics, and mentored research. As a result, I earned a master's degree in clinical investigation. For my thesis, I conducted a substudy as part of two clinical trials (NCT00281489, NCT00682825) under the guidance of Dr. Michael Avidan. My research focused on examining differences in anesthetic management, response to anesthesia, and risk of intraoperative awareness between patients with natural red hair and those without. Despite contrary evidence from non-clinical studies, our findings did not show clinically significant differences. In addition to my thesis, I also collaborated on other projects with Dr. Avidan's lab, gaining valuable experience in managing, modeling, and analyzing clinical data, including conducting linear mixed effects regressions, propensity score matching, and multivariate comparison tests. I also contributed to manuscript preparation and submission for these projects, which have been published (PMID 25681040, 24852500, 24113645).
  • Stowers Institute For Medical Research
    Stowers Summer Scholar
Stowers Institute For Medical Research May 2007 - Jul 2007
    Kansas City, Missouri, United States
As a Stowers Scholar, I worked in Dr. Yu's lab during the summer of 2007 and two consecutive summers thereafter. The lab aimed to understand the organization and processing of the olfactory system. Using transgenic mice, we visualized neuronal responses to odorants in the olfactory bulb. The lab had generated extensive data which was challenging to interpret, so I designed a novel computer program to analyze and display the data, shaping our understanding of olfactory processing. I also gained experience in neuron electrophysiology, odorant delivery modeling, and animal behavior experiments. Our findings challenged the previously held belief of chemotopic organization and supported a tunotopic organization, resulting in a published article (PMID 22431605).
