I am currently the Head of Model Risk and Governance at Fortitude Re and part of the ERM team. As such I am Fortitude-Re’s Model Risk Officer and run the Model Governance Committee. The role focuses on model risk management, model validation, management reporting, and documentation practices. This would include numerous financial framework such as BMA SBA/EBS, GAAP LDTI, Stat, Economic Value, and Capital Management. Additionally, my team and I are involved in the review process for new business deals and reinsurance transactions. I am also involved in assumptions setting review as part of Fortitude-Re’s Assumptions and Judgement Committee. Prior to joining Fortitude Re, I worked for twenty years at Equitable (and its prior parent AXA), in numerous roles of increasing responsibility including head of variable annuity pricing and modeling, lead actuary for annuity inforce management, and head of annuity experience and analytics. In my final role, my responsibilities included leadership of the assumptions and experience studies of all product lines along with actuarial governance (assumptions and models). In addition, I worked on a number of reinsurance deals for Equitable including ceding a significant GMXB block to Venerable and ceding part of the Fixed Annuity block to Global Atlantic. Prior to working at Equitable I worked as a consultant with Milliman for 5 years with diverse assignments in life and annuity products, including M&A deals and Demutualizations. I am highly committed to the actuarial profession and am involved in several SOA / LIMRA task forces that contributes to changes in liability behavior and mortality in the industry. stephen.gruber.18@gmail.com
