Constantly looking for simple ways to explain complex things in Python.I was a physicist in my first career, I now teach, write, and communicate about Python.Common thread across careers and over the years? Clear communication about abstract, complex topics. After my physics and mathematics undergraduate studies, I obtained a PhD in physics from Imperial College London, and I worked as a research scientist and lecturer for over a decade. When I escaped from academia, I focused on teaching Python to students of all ages, from seven-year olds to financial analysts in the City.Soon, I started writing about Python—The Python Coding Book started its life as notes I prepared for my corporate training programs. Now it's the number one result (or thereabouts) if you search "python book" on your favourite search engine. And I also write more regular Python articles and tutorials at The Python Coding Stack.I've been borrowing more tricks and techniques from storytelling to use in my technical writing recently. Stories existed for as long as humans have. We love stories. They're engaging. We connect with them. And we're more likely to understand and retain anything we learn from a story. That's why I'm using more narrative techniques to write about Python. The aim of writing and teaching is to educate, engage, entertain. Yes, entertain is also relevant since we learn better when we're in a receptive mindset. You can read more about my narrative technical writing ideas at Breaking the Rules on Substack.I've also created hundreds of hours of video course for The Python Coding Place and Codetoday Unlimited learning platforms–the latter is designed specifically for teenagers and preteens.I’m now a core team member at Real Python, working on developing some exciting, new products…

AuthorThe Python Coding Stack Apr 2023 - PresentI write the articles I wish I had when I was learning Python programming.I learn through narratives, stories. And I communicate in the same way, with a friendly and relaxed tone, clear and accessible. My ideal reader is the intermediate learner keen to dive deeper into programming and Python, aiming to move to the next level. However, I’m also writing with the beginner in mind, especially the type of beginner who likes to “read ahead” to know what’s coming next.Hopefully, even the more expert programmers will find some insightful ideas and thought-provoking perspectives.http://www.thepythoncodingstack.com -
Thinker. Storyteller. Narrative Technical Writer.Breaking The Rules Jun 2023 - PresentOver the years, I’ve been questioning the standard blueprints for writing technical articles. I’ve been exploring storytelling techniques in my articles. Stories have been an integral part of human societies for ever. There’s a reason for it.Stories engage. They tap into emotions. They convey messages better than raw facts. They lower a reader’s cognitive load, helping them understand better and recall what they’ve learned.Recent scientific studies have also looked at the neuroscience of storytelling.Breaking the Rules explores ideas about narrative technical writing. I’ll write my thoughts in short articles. I’ll describe my writing experiments—the different ways I try to tell stories in my technical articles. There's a forum so we can share ideas. And there are courses for those who want to make their writing more effective, engaging, and entertaining.https://breakingtherules.substack.com -
