Solution Architect for the initial stage of the railway's digital transformation: modernisation of seat reservations through the Rail Availability and Reservations programme. In the current phase of the project, my work involves creating a suite of reservations APIs which will be consumed by rail ticket retailers and travel agents.I collaborate with technology, retail distribution and train operator partners to design and build a cloud-based, API and microservices architecture. This fulfils the rail industry's aspiration for a flexible and extensible reservations service that fosters competition in the ticketing market.Centred on the Mulesoft integration platform and hosted in an AWS cloud environment, my responsibility is to develop and implement an identity and authentication model which is efficacious, scalable and adaptable to future changes.I work with and evaluate potential vendors to design an end-to-end solution which complies with open standards such as OAuth and OWASP. I am a passionate advocate of modern methodologies such as domain-driven design, clean code, test-driven development and continuous delivery, and lead by example in encouraging others to adopt these practices.I aim to be communicative, consultative and inclusive in my approach so that all stakeholders feel that their contribution is valued, and as a result the project meets its objectives.

At AstraZeneca I took a lead role on the 'Rapid' Implementation project team which delivered a series of JSF-based applications to the company's R&D scientists. This included working with users to establish requirements and their subsequent translation to user stories, having prioritised and assessed which were of most value and achievable in the short time-frame that the project budget allowed.Due to these very short time-scales, as much use as possible was made of re-usable, component-based software, for example JSF 2.0 with PrimeFaces, Facelets, Java 5 annotations, Spring Roo, JPA 2.0 (Eclipselink), and various features of the Spring 3 suite.

JD Williams is a major catalogue and online retailer, and I hold a senior role in a project to modernise the software used in their customer contact centre, replacing mainframe screens with a web-based application in a Service-Oriented Architecture.
