I graduated Glasgow Caledonian Univeristy with a 1st class honours in their Cyber-security and Networks program. I chose this specific degree as I had completed an HND in Computer Networking but had found myself drawn toward the challenge of not only building and maintaining networks but in ensuring that they are secure. Since then I have always been of the view that security should be ”built in, not painted on”.During the course of my studies at HND/BSc level I was introduced to the concept of Network Automation. This in turn led to me learning Python, initially in my spare time and latterly ”on the job” in the workplace. In accordance with my ”built in, not painted on” ethos, I have adopted a stance that code should not only be robust, well tested and efficient - since either it, or it’s sum product will likely touch the network at some point.In order to maximise my value to the industry and formalise my understanding of Software Engineering concepts, I have recently started a MSc Computer Science with Software Engineering program via Abertay University’s distance learning program. I am completing this part time to allow me to complete it alongside my work commitments.My previous experiences in high pressure, client facing, customer focused roles have allowed me to develop soft skills. This combination of soft skills and technical experience means I am equally comfortable when working as part of a team towards a common goal, or as individual on a delegated task. Currently working on gaining CCNP Enterprise and CCDevP to further evidence my abilities.
