Profile bio

About Stephen Hernon, Ed.D

I seek to provide a global, 21st Century school education that creates a foundation of social and academic skills that students can build upon throughout their lives. As a leader I spend each day challenging the status quo in today's educational system. To enable students to create a foundation of social skills we must create a professional and individual relationship with students. This type of relationship models the proper and healthy way of interaction in society. We need to have a genuine interest in the lives of their students. Knowing how to help a student with a curricular problem is equally as important as listening to them share information about their lives. Having a genuine interest helps create a high level of trust between the student and the teacher which can only help the student’s academic achievement. To enable students to create a foundation of academic skills we must challenge students to think critically, form informed opinions, and understand nuance and complexity. The 21st Century will be the century of overwhelming information. Memorizing lists of facts and information will not properly prepare students for the complexities of their lives. Teachers need to challenge students to apply information, locate information, evaluate information, form opinions and conclusions about that information, and effectively communicate those opinions and conclusions. Providing these necessary academic skills will prepare students to think critically and understand the complex problems of the 21st Century world.

Listed skills include Teaching, Classroom, Educational Leadership, Curriculum Development, and 32 others.
