About Stephen Hersee

I have an interest in wide range of technology, both new and old including cameras, computers, games consoles, telephones and tablets. My love for technology started when I inherited my Grandfathers old Windows 3.1 computer and I started to play around with it. Since then I have followed a path mainly consisting of computer studies during school, sixth form and university. I have just graduated from my degree in Computer Systems and Networks from Southampton Solent University. During my time at university I gained practical, hands-on experience to back up and assist the theory I have learned including:How to use both Windows and Linux versions of their client and server operating systemsDeveloping team and individual work skills through Graduate Development and Group Project unitsSetting up routers and networks using Cisco’s ‘Packet Tracer’ simulation softwareAbility to perform individual and group presentations through completing seminarsI have also spent my free time in the recent years learning and improving my photography skills after buying my first DSLR camera in 2013. I am looking to improve on these skills all the time, and I enjoy combining my love of technology with taking pictures.I spent four months at the tail end of 2014 working as a Happiness Champion with Triggertrap, a company who produce clever and unique ways of triggering a DSLR camera via an Android or iOS smartphone. My main role.was to assist with customer support and to help users with any problems that were experiencinh with the products.

Listed skills include Networking, Android, Troubleshooting, Linux, and 24 others.

I have also helped find and roll out a new WordPress based support ticket system, and help automate the new starter computer rollout by creating OS X user templates, and creating UNIX command templates to set default printers and install other software. Another ongoing project is to help automate as many tasks as possible, such as the moving of content from one server to another using MV, changing the owner of the files using CHMOD and copying of files between servers using RSYNC. I have also provided help to users with ‘tablet problems’ including connecting to WiFi networks, installing app, using Facebook and configuring email accounts. This role has taught me how to interact with people in a professional way as I am face to face with them. It has taught me how to talk clearly and slowly, as well as in a non technical way, for users to understand. I has also helped to improve my ‘on the spot’ thinking as there is only a small amount of time for me to think of a solution to the users problem. Show less
