Bristol succeeded in becoming a runner up in the Government's Digital Challenge - a competition to identify the country's best digital city. Connecting Bristol was the partnership I established and led initially to submit Bristol's bid but subsequently to deliver a visionary digital inclusion programme. In this role, I was also a founder member of the national Digital Challenge Network (the DC10) which linked 10 leading UK digital cities with each other and with Government. E-Democracy And Public Consultation Manager
I developed Bristol City Council’s strategic approach to public engagement including pioneering work on the use of technology and the Internet to increase democratic decision making.I established and successfully ran the Bristol Citizens’ Panel, produced 50+ citywide research reports, supported the city’s first Citizens’ Jury, piloted new technologies for improved public consultation and democratic engagement, such as e-petitioning and Ask Bristol. I led national projects and programmes within the government’s e-Innovations Programme and the Local e-Democracy National Project and undertook a major research and evaluation programme with The Oxford Internet Institute and The Tele-Democracy Centre and Napier University.For several years, I ran an international on-line moderator's course, delivered via The Hansard Society
