Procurement leadership role working with the Property, FM and PMO offices to manage, programme, source consultant expertise, ensure budgetary commitments are met, define strategy and ensure commercial accountability for several high profile construction and fit out projects across the UK. These construction and refurbishment projects required an in depth knowledge of the fit out market, FF&E space and extensive working knowledge of the furniture industry along with an ability to work with and manage third party professional services such as designers, architects, quantity surveyors and project managers.Reporting to members of the Bupa senior management team, the role included regular communication meetings, high levels of stakeholder management, involvement in senior level decision making and also a hands on approach to managing the support team guiding and directing them to ensure successful outcomes.

This interim role is to create a strategy for the global property footprint along with a market test of UK FM procurement and at the same time create a global strategy for FM. This global footprint comprises of commercial and residential properties both owned and leased giving an added complexity to the task. In addition the role will initiate category management in this sector and deliver considerable cost savings as well as introducing a level of governance that ensures procurement within FM and Property on a global level delivers a quality service, delivers efficiencies, is transparent, auditable and value for money. For example tendering of catering services that resulted in a new signed contract and £1.2m savings to OUP.

A short term contract to ensure the completion of a multi million pound tender for a principal contractor to undertake a complete escalator replacement and building refurbishment project over eight floors at the number five entrance to Harrods store. This was achieved with significant savings against budget and within timelines allowing the project to commence in January 2016 on schedule.I was also asked to create a procurement interaction plan and strategy to ensure that procurement and the property development department continued to work together collaboratively, to ensure that procurement was engaged on projects and that by working together both departments delivered projects on time, on target projects that delivered the extremely high standard of finish and quality that is synonymous with the Harrods brand.

Crawley

Initial contract term to lead category team (3 people) responsible for global contracts for airport security, cargo, and all “below wing” services such as ground handling, cleaning, food service etc. and some project works. Additionally I was personally responsible for the crew transport and accommodation at all Virgin destinations around the globe. I sourced, visited and negotiated with hotels around the world. I was also responsible for the team’s overall and individual objectives, savings targets and delivery of those objectives. On successful completion of that category I then assumed responsibility for all Facilities Management, Property and Projects related initiatives on a global basis. Responsible for the procurement deliverables (professional services, principal contractor, interior finishings etc.) on a new office complex located in Crawley, contract negotiations with GAL (Gatwick Airport Limited) regarding the move of Virgin Airlines from the South Terminal to the North Terminal, an office refurbishment for Virgin Holidays, a new sales and marketing suite at the O2 and other construction/fit-out projects. I also led the tendering of several FM services such as catering, cleaning, archiving, M&E etc. as well as looking at the procurement of all furniture. I also completed a strategy plan regarding Virgin's FM delivery fro the next 5 years across the many and diverse properties that Virgin occupy around the globe.

Initially a six month assignment that was extended twice, the assignment was required to bring some rigour and procurement experience to the Property and FM categories within UK Power Networks. Having worked with the teams and delivered key projects on time and usually below budget the remit was expanded to lead and develop future state strategy for both the FM and Property departments. The remit was also increased to accommodate planning and to prepare UKPN for the tendering of their FM provision. The role developed from a largely tactical procurement role to a consultant/mentoring type role that was responsible for planning, strategy and delivery of future projects and FM solutions. I also guided and mentored UKPN with regards to the introduction of agile working within their office spaces.
