MDA Information Systems LLC reorganized into Maxar, and for a while my position was under the Radiant Solutions business line until being rebranded simply as Maxar. I led scientific development and provided scientific insight, ideas, and methodologies for a fantastic team which provides weather-related and climate-related services, products, and data to the energy, agriculture, and financial sectors globally, helping customers meet operational challenges and reduce risk.I created a best-of-the-science solar generation and irradiance forecasting system based on first principles and which won third party forecast intercomparisions and contracts. The team expertly implemented my development into an operational workflow which delivers real-time forecasts to a variety of customers and my forecast system contributed to one of the Department of Energy's Solar Forecasting II projects on using probabilistic solar power forecasts to improve integrating solar power into the electric grid and help regional transmission operators manage the grid. This position was an excellent growth opportunity which allowed me to learn and expand my expertise into areas of renewable energy and other industry applications of weather and climate and gain experience interfacing with interdisciplinary customers who have wide-ranging interests and backgrounds. Also, Maxar facilitated technological growth, as we were already moving to a cloud environment before the COVID-19 pandemic. Computation and development became cloud-based and Agile and we became adept at working fully remotely as a team. Show less
