Focused on providing strategic, operational, and technical leadership to a global biomedical research enterprise encompassing more than 2,100 employees. Responsible for ensuring daily operations in the U.S., Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Caucasus region run smoothly and supporting risk mitigation and improvement strategies when they do not. Align institutional mission, vision, and daily operations with the needs and objectives of the U.S. National, Military, and Global Health Security Strategies. Ensure the global budget exceeding $290M USD/year is appropriately expended according to mission objectives and federal laws and regulations. Responsible for identifying and aligning government, academic, and industry market needs and opportunities with institutional capabilities, competencies, and mission objectives. Develop evidence-based and data-driven institutional business and accounting practices and contracting/acquisition strategies. Direct the development of marketing, strategic communications, and external relationship management products and practices. Responsible for providing strategic counsel and oversight to institutional identification, recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of the best and brightest physicians, basic scientists, and science support personnel. Responsible for representing the institute within the Department of Defense, U.S. Government, and community through publication in the scientific literature, speaking engagements, and the media.
