Having covered the global beer and spirits industries for over thirty years, I am today considered one of the world's most authoritative voices on the subjects. My latest book is the third edition of the award-winning international best-seller, The World Atlas of Beer, which I co-wrote with Tim Webb. I have also written or co-written fourteen other books, including Will Travel for Beer: 101 Remarkable Journeys Every Beer Lover Should Experience, which the esteemed British writer Roger Protz calls “a joyous romp through the beers, bars and pubs of the world,” and Canadian Spirits: The Essential Cross-Country Guide to Distilleries, Their Spirits, and Where to Imbibe Them, which I co-authored with Christine Sismondo.In 2022, I was awarded Best Beer Business Communicator by the British Guild of Beer Writers for my global brewing industry commentaries published at just-drinks.com. Tim Webb and I received Best Beer & Travel Awards from the same organization in 2012 and 2017 for the first and second editions of The World Atlas of beer. In addition to my almost thirty years as columnist for one of the world's leading spirits publications, Whisky Advocate, I have over the years contributed to dozens of other magazines and newspapers, including The Globe and Mail, Playboy, Food & Drink, Wine Enthusiast, Fine Cooking and many others.When I am not writing about or tasting beer and spirits, I travel the world talking about them, hosting beer dinners and tutored tastings in locales from São Paulo, Brazil, to Toronto, Ontario, and Dallas, Texas, to Burton-upon-Trent, England. I have also consulted for a large number of corporations, including Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the Walt Disney Company, and Crystal Cruises among many others, and appear regularly at hospitality industry gatherings such as the VIBE Conference.
