I directed social marketing and health communication for CDC programs targeted at improving the health and well-being of adults with functional disabilities and children with mental disorders and impairments. My critical responsibilities were to make sure that all marketing and communication activities were rooted in good marketing and communication science; targeted and strategic in nature; built using best practices, repeatable processes and CDC policy/legal standards; and timely, accessible, accurate and responsive to internal and external stakeholder needs.Key Accomplishments:- Directed overall division communication planning, including external communication activities and launches, and internal communication with division and center staff. Collaborated closely with branches and teams to support and strengthen activity-based communication plans. - Led the communication planning and project management for May 2014 CDC Vital Signs™, the Agency’s first stand-alone issue on people with disabilities. This Vital Signs™ and corresponding communication products led to a reach of over 138 million people, the highest web traffic compared to previous 12 months of Vital Signs issues, and partner engagement successes.-Developed and launched communication campaigns in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and a children's mental health report, the first-ever CDC report to describe federal efforts on monitoring mental disorders in children.- Incubated and implemented the DHDD digest program, a weekly news bulletin that includes important division information that is sent out weekly from the division director. Provided oversight of editorial staff and collaborated with division staff on editorial content. - Hosted and mentored CDC’s first-ever person on the CDC disability internship program, helping to develop skills of the individual while meeting diversity and communication objectives for the Agency.

I provided strategic social marketing, health communication and brand management to CDC programs in environmental health, birth defects and disabilities. To advance the science of social marketing and health communication, I conducted strategic communications planning, research, audience segmentation and the development and management of multiple messages, products, tools and channels. This campaign created awareness and reinforced the value of the center to policymakers and key influencers.
