National and international group oversight, working alongside the board and our employee owners to deliver on the ADP vision and strategic plan. Head of operational management across the practices group of companies, with a strong client facing role in business development and delivery in both national and international markets.

Stephen sits on the ADP main board, and co-leads the Edinburgh studio. With a client facing and business development focus, stephen is involved across both the public, private and third sectors. Working across our wider studio's Stephen also chairs the Directors Operation group and has overall responsibility for H+S Strategy and implementation across ADP 7 UK studios.

Stephen is a Director and co-leads the Edinburgh studio and as a senior member of the ADP management team has a UK wide role as Education sector champion, and chairs the business Operations Group. Stephen has a wealth of experience in leading complex projects, and has a significant business development role in Scotland North England.With significant experience across a number of sectors and complex projects, Stephen has led and delivered schools, higher education, sport and leisure, residential, healthcare and masterplanning projects in a number of procurement arenas, under PPP, Traditional, Management, DBFM and Partnering forms. Having an in-depth knowledge of ecological and sustainable design, he contributes widely to the architectural profession and represents the practice on a number of industry bodies. He is a past Vice-President of the Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA), a Nationally elected Council member for the Royal Incorporation of Architects In Scotland (RIAS), and a past panel member on the Glasgow Urban Design Panel (GUDP). Stephen is also one of the 25 accredited sustainable design architects in Scotland recognised by the RIAS, and is an Incorporated member of the Chartered Institute of Building (ICIOB). Stephen retains links to academia, and has in the past been a regular Stage 5 critic at the Glasgow School of Art, and stages 1, 3, and 5 at Strathclyde University

Recognition for Architects who can demonstrate through a track record, that they have delivered Sustainable Architecture and have communicated and promoted their understanding of it through built work. Applicants are required to provide evidence of their career, qualifications and specialist areas of knowledge or activity; and a range of project work/case studies which are assessed by independent peer review.

The RIAS council is made up of the six Chapters (Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Stirling) electing office bearers and representatives to the ruling Council to sit alongside nationally elected members, senior committee convenors and co-optees. The Council is advised on strategy matters by the President's Policy Committee (PPC) and by committees whose remits reflect the breadth of RIAS' activity. PPC meets in advance of Council as a senior member forum.

During a period of transition within RIAS I have been elected into the Governance committee to provide a strong voice for change and reform at the RIAS. Our professional body demands of us the highest caliber of professionalism, ethics and behaviour whilst ensuring that the body itself is a vehicle to represent its members. We must begin to reform, modernise and create real change at a fundamental level within the organisation and use this opportunity to re-engage with our membership.Our goal is to re-create a professional body founded on values of transparency, honesty, creativity and with collaboration in industry at its very core. We are approaching a significant period in the history of the RIAS and it’s paramount that we address its shortcomings and look forward to a brighter future for our profession.

The NextGen committee is concerned with promoting younger staff within the industry. We are in the process of establishing a Scottish NextGen group and have held our first event, which was attended by 100 individuals. Follow up events are being planned.

Industry leadership groups brings together key figures from the public sector and private sector to drive sector growth and industry wide collaboration and alignment. They are principally charged with developing industry led strategies for their sector, providing leadership to stimulate action by business and drive industry growth.

Joint Convenor of special committee for the 2016 Festival of Architecture, Design and Innovation.Glasgow will play a pivotal role in the year long festival being co-ordinated by the Royal incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) The 2016 committee shall represent the GIA council as the main delivery team and project leaders, as well as representing council on RIAS matters at 2016 Committee.

The GIA is run by the GIA Council comprising the President, the Past President, five Committee Convenors and Council Members, all of whom are elected from the GIA membership.

The Architecture, People and Places Committee was formed in 2008 with the following objective:“The promotion of Architectural and Urban Design matters that can provide tangible benefit to the wider public.”The group’s role is wide ranging. Through the committee GIA can engage meaningfully with National and Local Political leadership, local authorities and other professional groups on matters of policy in relation to architecture and design. The committee also has a particular role in engaging with the wider community. To further this aim the committee can organise Architectural competitions, events and workshops.
