I have always been fascinated by personal computers, cell phones, gaming consoles, etc. This led me to taking vocational classes in high school to learn more about computer systems and how their individual pieces create a bigger picture. After high school, I went to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to pursue a degree in computer engineering. I chose this degree because I knew I wanted to create something. The tech industry moves and improves very quickly, and I've always wanted to be a part of either software or hardware development.During college, I was taught several languages (Java, C++, C, PLC Ladder Logic). I also learned more languages on my own (Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for passion projects like creating Discord bots and simple websites.For my senior design project, my team had to work with another team of biology students who were researching the bacteria count inside a bar kegerator. The biology students' goal was to prove whether or not a new method of cleaning bar kegerators proposed by someone within the bar industry would significantly reduce the amount of bacteria when compared to the industry standard method. My team's goal was to provide a way to monitor and automate the process of a bar kegerator being used within our lab.My senior design team created a website where a user could specify how many beers needed to be poured in a given time frame. The website would then create a schedule and would send a signal to a raspberry pi in the biology lab whenever it was time to pour. The raspberry pi would then open a valve, monitor how much beer was passing through the valve, then close the valve when 473mL of beer has passed through the valve. The multi-disciplinary nature of our senior design project was very interesting to me. I had the opportunity to work alongside another team with a very different skillset. After college, I was hired as a Quality Assurance Engineer at Software Solutions Integrated. I quickly gained a lot of knowledge on how software companies operate. Communication is the biggest part of my job. I need to communicate bugs effectively to the developers so they know what needs to be fixed, with the user experience designers to make sure the work that the developers put out matches their designs, with the project manager about what our team's priorities are, and with other QA engineers about manual and automation testing strategies.I would love to tell you more!
