While I lived and worked in Japan for 25 years but now back in the US, I have established and run five medical device companies. Over the last 10 years I have started up 2 US ventures, using my intimate knowledge of executive business and worldwide markets. In 2015 my initiative led me to start Sigma 3SP LLC (Sig3) for two neuro-imaging markets – electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG.) I am Sig3’s CEO. Sig3’s expertise is noise suppression – both in the device sensors but also external environmental interference. That leads to better analyses for better patient care. Simultaneously, I have been CFO, running the administration of Champaign Imaging LLC which has received 3 NIH grants for pediatric MRIs. Champaign’s expertise is twofold – reduction of acoustic noise and motion correction of MRI images. In both ventures my plan involves an introduction of a customer service component – increasing customer satisfaction and providing a steady revenue stream. My skills are to understand and negotiate organizational and market differences – a key to successful entrance into any new global arena. My goals are employee collaboration and team success. My entire business experience has dealt with high tech, high ticket diagnostic imaging medical devices.• After my colleague moved to the University of Washington (Seattle), I quickly set up Sig3, acquiring his patents at the University’s. While still in early days, Sig3 is set to break through with software to reduce noise suppression for the large EEG market as seen from the recent Austin ACNS meeting poster.• As CFO of Champaign Imaging LLC, I have been responsible for overseeing the federal funds ($1.8 million) and the coordination and administration needed with such grants and Champaign’s sub-contractors. Champaign is moving to the forefront of pediatric MRI systems as documented by their abstracts at the upcoming ISMRM Toronto meeting in June.• As Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Neuromag OY, I transformed the company with new products and customer service, turning around an annual operating loss of $7.8 million to a 12% division-wide profit, with annual revenues of $32.5 million. • Started Far East division for U.S.-based Meridian Instruments, specializing in confocal microscopes for medical research, growing from 4 to 27 employees and to $12.5 million in profitable sales.• Started Coulter Japan, specializing in high-end diagnostic and research equipment.
